Ooh, ooh, there's a whole new PC Suite release on the loose, v6.8, with an upgraded Nokia Music Manager, various multimedia related improvements and a simplified interface. Thanks to the S60 Multimedia blog for the heads-up.

Read on in the full article.

this is great news..

but unfortunately NO MAC SUITE still for us Mac users.

iSync 2.2 was updated though to work with newer nokia models.

Hold on a minute before you carried away...

Who in their right mind is going to type in all the track names and artist in this day and age, even if this was a serious competetitor for OggPlay?

In the help files it says that there should be a menu item under Options which says Get CD Information. It ain't in my copy!

I've been trying with a Nokia N90. I can't see how that should make a difference though as even if the N90 doesn't support track information (which it does in Music Player) the data exchange should be between the PC and Gracenote at that stage, not the phone.

Am I missing something? Or are Nokia?

Yes, that's how it is working, you insert a CD and the gracenote service registration pops up and once you have registered, you get the CD info very quickly. (Of course you need to be connected to internet at the same time, if you have some tracks that you have earlier ripped to PC, it does not work since it (Gracenote)reads the CD directly.

...how long did you have to wait? It's not coming up here. No evidence of any pop-ups being blocked. There's not even a 'greyed out' menu option in 'Options'. Did you have that before the registration process? Or does it suddenly appear afterwards? There's just nothing happening here!

I can only conclude that Gracenote works with more music focused phones, I use 3250

It would seem that you're right as I found this in the help files... "Some features in Nokia Music Manager are not available for all Nokia phone models. An example of such features is the music recognition service (hosted and owned by Gracenote), from which CD information can be queried." I don't understand what the point of blocking this link is - the PC Suite might as well have the data - it obviously can - even if it can't be sent to the phone. Which it should be able to - Music Player recognises track names. Most odd.

Long live OggPlay!

I suspect it's blocked off because of the cost of the Gracenotes service - it's not free. If Nokia had an ounce of common sense they would switch as soon as possible to the MuiscBrainz service (www.musicbrainz.com) which is an open source managed tagging service. It's good enough for AOL and WinAmp.

What do you mean by no copy paste support and behing then of what ? YOu got me confused here ?

Copying text from PC and pasting it in phone and vice versa. Like it works in PsiWin's CopyAnywhere, the "PCSuite" for Symbian v5.

Just to remark that the Gracenote thing works fine for my Nokia N70 - I'm guessing that Nokia's wanted to limit their license with Gracenote and thus their expense.

But as Ewan says, why they couldn't go with any of the several totally free CDDB services....... Strange decision!

Still well that 6.7_22 was changed. My linkings with the PC had left to function, after the installation of this version. Even with uninstall and coming back to install 6.7_21, it was everything in the same way. Now I installed the 6,8 and everything came back to be equal to that it was before. Peace, again...
