Using the N70 flash as a torch

Hi

Please could anyone tell me if there is a program that turns the flash on the back on the N70 into a torch, i.e. turning it on permanently like Sony Ericssons do.

I know there is a program called 'torch' but this only turns the screen white.

Thanks

No such app, as far as I know (there is no documented/published programming interface in the S60 Software Development Kits for such).

If you set your N70 as if you were going to take a video, start recording then press pause. The camera LED flash will stay illuminated for a couple of minutes. To be honest though, you may find that the Torch application that you mentioned that turns the display screen white is actually a better source of light as the app also turns the backlight on to max.

What you said above here isn't correct.
But is just something that is missing in the app

When I open "Torch", nothing happens with my screenbrightness, it stays on the same level. The only good thing on "Torch" is that the backlight stays on all the time.
But it would be cool when you open "Torch" the screenbrightness goes to the max. Or you can adjust the brightness level in the app itself.

There is more than one torch app... for definite my one will pump up the screen brightness to the max and you can also choose different colours or even have the screen cycle through different colours.

Apologies, the app I have is actually called 'DiscoLight', it's a Java application (31kB) by 5C.

It works perfectly on the N70, I got it so long ago that I can't remember where from  sorry. The best suggestion I can make is try a Google search for "Disco Light" +Java as that's how I found the graphic.

Maybe for other people: here is the download link. Its freeware. Just put the .jar file on the phone and execute the jar to install.

Ahh Excellent! :icon14: 😊 I'm glad you found it and even better that you prefer it over the standard Torch.

Apologies again for not remembering the d/l site.

No problem whatsoever about the download site, it was a short look on google (with use of your searchcode) and I got it. I can't wait till midnight to use it 😊

Not a flash - torsh, but with FExplorer, it have a "lights on" option. Its not bad at all.

Finally there is ......

App called "flashlight" It uses camera flashligt as a perfect torch

1 - Install sis file
2 - Start camera and press "menu" button to hide it
3 - Start flashlight app and write code "15001" and press "test" from options menu to activate

How to close

1 - Exit from app. Open it again and write code "15000" and press "test" to deactivate.

WORKS PERFECT ON MY N70

Thank me later.....:top:

I have a question:

-My 'flashlight' is ON just for about 5 seconds, then it turns off, is this the normal way ?

-Where is this 'TEST' button you mentioned ,I can't find it, I type this code '15001' and the LIGHT is on just for about 5 seconds

Please reply!

No, it is not OK, the LED should stay on until switching off. Test should be in options menu.

Wirelessly posted (Nokia N72: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Symbian OS; Nokia N70/5.0706.4.0.1; 9424) Opera 8.65 [en])

finally i got flashlight..really nice app tested on n72... But i have few questions...1.how long to keep flash on before it damages LED or other parts due to heat? Please give your max time....2. Will this app void the warranty? Please help me guys...suggestions required

It won't void your warranty, but the LED gets hot though. I don't recomend to keep it on longer than 10 minutes.

ur flashlight is turning off automatically because u r using the wrong code

its not 15001

it is 150001
