Anyone know anything about this? Got a CD in my PCPro today about the 9210e and Orange (UK Service Provider). It doesn't give any technical details about the phone so it may just be the Orange branded version of a standard 9210, but then again it may be enhanced somehow?
9210e
From my understanding, Orange branded phones are no different from the normal phones (7110e, 6210e etc) apart from the fact that they are more likely to fail - allegedly
.
The only time I've had trouble with a phone is when it's an Orange butchered phone. I always try and get a non Orange phone on the Orange network (I do think that in terms of network performance and features, they're really good). That's why I got a BT Cellnet 9210 since BT Cellnet don't take their phones to the nearest back street abortion clinic.
A friend of mine went through TEN 7110e phones and a few 6210e phones.
Also, when I bought my SIM free Communicator, the 7210e was 900 while BT Cellnet wanted much less.
I'd like to point out that I've never had trouble with Orange's network performance and I've always found their staff helpful (unlike the author of http//www.hateorange.co.uk). It's just their modified handsets I've had problems with.
I have run a 9210 (cellnet) and a 9210e (orange)
Of the two the Orange phone is much better, however this is because Orange waited until s/w version 3.62 before launching, whilst Cellnet couldnt wait to get a phone onto the shelves (however buggy)
Orange phones will not work on other networks because they are blocked. In a similar vain I had tones of issues getting my 9210 (Cellnet) working with Orange voice mail spool notification.
Also one of the benefits with Orange is the next day replacement on a faulty phone. They will only do this if you have a Orange model.
In summary if your on Cellnet/Vodaphone then get a standard (un-modified model), if your on Orange get a Orange edition.

I never had any trouble with my 3210e and 6210e, I never realised they did anything to the phone... All the stats and everything had it as the same phone. I thought Orange just stuck the 'e' on the end to make it sound important that the phone was made for their network (or possibly that it was locked to their network).
As for their network, its the best I've found in the UK, if only I could get Genies 600 free texts and 100mins free WAP thing on OVP....
Flipside With you on that one. I phoned Orange and asked for OVP to copy Geniue and they'd never heard of it ![]()
