N70 in Japan

Anyone taken this phone to Japan and does it work? Before you all say it I know the Japanese systems are different to the UK, but I have read some stories of UK phones working. As the N70 is relatively new one can only hope. I'm on Voda by the way - I guess an advantage in that if anything will work Voda might because they are now in Japan.

Whilst im not intending on using the phone extensively whilst Im there, it would be useful in an emergency.

If it doesnt work can anyone suggest a UK phone that is known to work?

Cheers

The N70 will work in Japan on the Vodafone KK (formerly J-Phone) network (or whatever it is called now that Softbank bought the operator from Vodafone).

Did this last month, worked flawlessly, Get vodafone passport before you go though, saves a bundle on charges!!
Also remember if you're communicating with Japanese people you can't use SMS cos they use e-mail, but you could always sign up for a free vodafone mail e-mail account and use that from your phone to e-mail the Japanese mobiles (again it worked, i was doing it 😊)

Excellent - 1 happy N70 user! I took a Sendo X last year and that was next to useless. The majority of UK mobiles do not work in Japan.

SO - does it work outside of Tokyo?!! I will be living in Yamaguchi prefecture. Does it depend on Vodafones coverage in the sticks?
