Removing PVPlayer (Or making Real Default)?

6 replies · 2,492 views · Started 07 May 2006

Hi,
I read that the reason for Jerky videos on my N70 is that as I am on orange they put PVPlayer on for Orange TV, but it plays MP4 very jerky. They work fine on Real but its annoying that I have to go through the menus rather that just playing the vid I have just recorded. Does anyone know any way to remove the PVPlayer or make Real the default video player.

Cheers

PVPlayer is stored in the phone's ROM so it cannot be deleted. Probably the only way to be rid of it is to upgrade your handset's firmware with the latest generic Nokia version.

Would I need proof of purchase to get an upgrade done? As I brought my phone on ebay. Is there no where you can download an update?

You shouldn't need proof of purchase. The phone is less than 12 months old so should be covered by the standard Nokia warranty. The only issue you may come across is that quite a few service centres will be reluctant to 'de-brand' a handset by upgrading to generic Nokia firmware. It's not impossible to find a sympathetic NSC though.

finally, somebody else who's asked about the same problem i have.

still not found a solution that doesn't involve de-branded firmware though.

i'm gonna ring Orange again now and see what they have to say this time.

I experienced the same...I've looked high and low for setting default apps for certain file types but couldn't...now I've a generic and videos open in RealPlayer...think flashing is the only way.

I also have this problem and no one ever posted about how to resolve the issue,

Another problem caused by Orange messing with a decent phone,
