N70 bought from other providers don't work on 3 network?

I'm thinking of buying an N70 and joining the provider '3' but this provider wants you to buy the phone from them. They say that only phones bought from them will work on their network, even if they are unlocked. Can they really do this? I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has tried putting their '3' sim into a non-'3' phone.

I bought a N70 from a independent shop, it works fine for me.

I am in Denmark, don't know if 3 would block foreign phones, but I doubt it, they would have to track IMEI numbers of their customers phones, and still allowing foreign customers to roam to their net (or loose money).

Michael

i once put t mobile firmware on my 3 locked 6630. the result was that when i browsed the 3 portal i kept getting the message please use your 3 phone to access this service. flashing the phone to generic firmware solved the problem. you will experience the same problem if you use a phone branded to another network on 3. but if you buy a generic handset you will have no problems.
