Hello everyone,
I'm new on this (well i had before a symbian but never stupid problems like that). I just recently bought N70 from Orange and I for my surprise I found out that the firmware of the phone was changed Orange with this horrible Orange homepage. I have some questions that I would like to ask.
1. If I change to the Generic Firmware will I have any problems with the Orange Services?
2. Some of the Orange Software that are already installed on my phone can i get them back and from where?
3. Is it a wise move or not. 😊
Any feedback will be appreciated.
Thank you
v. 3.0546.2.3
18-11-05
RM-84
I got my nokia n70 on orange 'debranded' with the generic firmware (5.0609.2.0.1 RM-84)
on the whole, the phone feels much better in use, all the orange rubbish has been removed obviously and the new firmware feels snappier, syncing with my mac works better etc etc.
however, having subscribed to orange tv on the phone prior to the upgrade i now can't re-download the orange tv application from the portal - it returns an 'unable to verify the certificate' message and after calling OCS this morning i've learned that I can't cancel my subscription to the OTV service without using the unsubscribe link included in the software. so i'm a bit stuck really, according to OCS there's nothing they can do.
could someone possibly post a yousendit link with the orange tv app .jar (?) file so that i can try a manual install?
cheers.
The people at carphonewarehouse are really annoying. First they will tell you everything to put you off even when you tell them in their face that you have already taken your decision and for a job of 15 min they want to keep your mobile for 2 days.
Ill try to download the Orange TV and send the .jar file

You will lose pvPlayer that is available commercially. However, you will also loose 'line 2' functionality and also Orange's version of the walkietalkie application PushToTalk which they call 'Talk Now'. AFAIK, you won't be able to replace these unless you take a complete backup of the phone prior to reflashing with the upgrade firmware.

Do a backup of the phone while the Orange firmware is installed, then restore this backup once the generic firmware has been installed.
This should avoid the problem some people have faced with not being able to install Orange TV due to not having the correct certificate on the phone.
Cheers guys,
I'll do that so i wont have any problems. I hope i'll flash it soon because the people in the carphone are realy annoying.
Thanks
If i do the full backup do i keep the 2nd line and the Orange TV?

Hello,
this does not work. I backed up my t-mobile V.2 branded N70 a couple of days ago and had my N70 debranded with the free firmware from Nokia V.5.
The phone worked well with the new firmware unless that other simcards did not work except t-mobile ones. I tried restoring my backup I did before but this resulted in having my phone crashed and did not boot anymore (endless loop) I had to sent my phone back to t-mobile.
I finally got round to ridding my phone of the Orange firmware... oh my god, I now have a usable, faster, attractive phone!! Screens work properly, menus open faster, bluetooth works better, navigation shortcut keys work... its just SO much better.
Yes, Orange TV is gone. But I never used it so I wont miss it. All the improvements FAR outweigh the insignificant losses. I will be leaving my SPV's at home for a while now instead of leaving my N70 on the desk when I leave home.
Hi
Does 'rebranding' mean unlocking or updating with the latest firmware?
The reason I ask I have a 6120 on order from Orange and no doubt it will have the Homepage.
Thanks
I got around the orange homepage by going to the Standby mode settings and turning it off, now I have to leave it "Offline" at night or it resets but i dont have a problem with the warrenty, OCS said it could I invalidate it by altering it like that 😡
