orange tv on 'unbranded' orange n70

hi,
reposting this query from another thread.
I've just had my orange n70 flashed with 5.0609.2.0.1 01-03-06 RM-84 firmware and I now can't download the orange tv app (it returns an 'unable to verify certificate' error on download) according to orange i can't unsubscribe from the service without using the application so i'm a bit stuck.

does anyone have any thoughts as to how i can proceed, when my trial period runs out i'll be paying 10 a month for a service that I apparently can't access or remove from my account.

i know i should have looked into this before i flashed the phone but given that i've ballsed that up, does anyone have any thoughts as to how i might proceed?

cheers

To be honest, if Orange find out that you have flashed the handset with generic firmware, they may become even more unhelpful. :frown: Your best bet is to phone up OCS and say that your handset has "lost its settings" and could they re send the security certificates back to your handset. If they refuse then you may (I stress 'may' because I've never done it myself) be able to copy the security certificate from a friend that has an N70 also on Orange.

If I go to Menu > Tools > Settings > Security > Certif. management
I can see that I have a certificate marked "Orange Java Mobile" in the Authority tab, I have no personal certs that I can see.

Details are as follows:
Label:
Orange Java Mobile Device Root

Issuer:
Orange Java Mobile Device Root, Orangeworld SA, GB

Subject:
Orange Java Mobile Device Root, Orangeworld SA, GB

Valid from:
30/09/2003

Valid until:
30/09/2013

Cerificate Location:
Phone memory

Certificate format:
X.509

Algorithm:
SHA1RSA

Serial number:
probably handset specific, based on IMEI? Hence I'm not printing it sorry.

Fingerprint (SHA1):
probably handset specific, based on IMEI? Hence I'm not printing it sorry.

Fingerprint (MDA5):
probably handset specific, based on IMEI? Hence I'm not printing it sorry.

I'm guessing you need that security certificate to be able access all areas of the Orange World Portal.

Bear in mind that you will have also lost Orange specific applications (in addition to the much hated HomeScreen) such as pvPlayer and Orange's version of Push To Talk - Talk Now.

Good luck in your dealings with Orange Customer Services. You may want to dial 156 as opposed to 150 as the people there are more geared towards technical queries.

S.

I have had my Orange N70 flashed to generic firmware (3.05 in my case) and I didn't have this problem - maybe because I installed the Orange TV app to my memory card, then did a backup before the flash and a restore afterwards.

I did have to download the TV app again from the website, but it installed without any problems.

Do you have a pre-flash backup you could try restoring?

thanks for your replies.
unfortunately i don't have a backup with the orange tv app. the instructions specified installing to the phone memory and i stupidly followed them.

OCS were suprisingly sympathetic but unhelpful, suggesting that i master reset (..!) or find a nokia service centre to reflash with the orange firmware.

i can access the relevant area of the orange portal from my phone but get the certification error at the end of the installation process. i'm wondering if it would be worth trying to manually copy the app onto my memory card but i don't have a copy of it unfortunately.

do you have a spare mmc to backup a stripped down version of your backup you could send him?
