I have had the N for about 8 days now and I very impressed with it ....BUT....the battery is only lasting about 2 days.....And I turn it of a night.
In the time that I have had it I have had to charge it 6 times....the first charge was for 12 hours and then every time I have let the phone go totally dead.....Is the right or is this a crap battery.
I have made a total 50 minutes for dialed and received calls and sent about 50 txt.....
Gonna go to the car phonewarehouse tomorrow to see what they have to say...
Battery Life
I just bought the n80 today so not sure about the batery life but there are ways of extending the life of the batery, like turning off bluetooth unless its needed and you can set the phone to use the gsm network only and turn off the automatic search for a WLAN..
From my experience with nokia phones two days is prety good anyway with regular use.
Can you not just charge it overnight??
Mine lasts about 3 days with average use which is OK I reckon. But yeah, as iceman says turn off all unnecessary background processes and it'll last longer.
I can charge it sometimes over night but not others....
I have turned the WiFi to never show availability, will that turn the WiFi OFF?
Have also turned the phone to GSM only. Have just read about that from another post.....
Will let you know how I get on.....
Cheers
I use my N80 for music on tube to and from work and a few messages and calls during the day, I need to recharge the phone daily. which is a bit bobbins to be fair.
If you're using it to listen to music then I reckon that's acceptable - I mean I have to charge my iPod pretty much every day.

Yes, it will turn the WiFi OFF, but only until you need to use it.
Next time you need to make a connection (say for email, web or google maps), it will still look for your pre-defined WiFi access points, and then selecting "Search for WLAN" will do exactly what it says on the tin... even though you've already told it "never to show availability".

Hello guys,
I bought a silver one and just returned it after using it for 1 week. I had to charge battery each 23 hours 😮 and I just used Btooth twice a day during 30 minutes, a couple of calls and 7 or 8 SMS and one Wifi connection of 1 minute to update my HandyWeather at morning. My network is Vodafone 3G.
I changed it for a new black one and also has a newest firmware and now I battery last two days. Is not so good but at least is acceptable.
Current firmware is 3.0614.0.3 from 11-04-2006. What is yours?

What do u mean turning Wifi Off ?. Isn't it already turned off until you say the opposite ?
I mean, in normal standby mode phone is not detecting any Wifi Spot unless you go to connections-Wlan and detect them. Is that correct ?
petoman wrote:What do u mean turning Wifi Off ?
I mean Tools > Settings > Connection > Wireless LAN > Show Availability = Never
petoman wrote:Isn't it already turned off until you say the opposite?
Well yes, that is the point I was trying to make.
petoman wrote:I mean, in normal standby mode phone is not detecting any Wifi Spot unless you go to connections-Wlan and detect them. Is that correct?
Yes correct, unless you've chosen Show Availability = Yes, every x minutes, which would additionally search for WLAN hotspots every x minutes weather you wanted to connect or not, wasting your valuable battery juice.
WLAN or Wifi, cannot be turned off, it is always on, changing the show availablily to never does just that it doesn't show availabilty, although it does save a little battery power.
If you open the Connection Manager, walk down a street where you know there are wifi hotspots, it will find them just the same.
Unlike a pocket pc etc, it is impossible to turn off, it is a feature of the phone on all N and E series phones that support WLAN.
Just to put a bit of perspective on this battery life lark...
A.) So you plug the battery in overnight to charge, so what? Don't you sleep or something? Is it that big a deal just to plug it in before you sleep - it takes all of what...3 seconds?
B.) So you're going away on a trip and want enough battery power. Full N80 Nokia equivalent batteries on EBay cost well under 3. If you've spent shedloads on an N80 why are you so tight you can't buy a spare battery for 2.50 or something. You spend more than that on your lunch every day. It's also tiny and small, easy to fit in your pocket, and if you're away on a trip, think of all the other stuff you'll be carrying, you won't notice a spare battery.
I'm tired of seeing whinges about battery life on these forums. The N80 is a far, far better device than anything that has a longer battery life. Get some perspective.

Hey superleccy,
Ratkat is right it is currently disabled but when i came to a new hotspot it shows me the id, so it is always on and that explain me the problem.
Thanks anyway !

I agree with ajck for the most part, but DO NOT buy any of those 3 batteries from eBay - they are not official Nokia ones.
I bought one last year for my 7610, and although it looked enough like an official one, it had no hologram when it arrived so it was pretty clear it was a fake.
When I charged it and used it, it barely gave me a days power (with an official Nokia one I used to get about 5 days power on my 7610.)
I can only imagine how long they would last on the N80 - probably about 20 minutes 😊

Which was actually the point I was trying to make right from the start, but clearly my message got lost in translation.
I think we're agreed so all is groovy.

The only way you will get the WiFi to switch off is to go into offline mode, this has one HUGE drawback in that the phone becomes a nice paperweight!!
Handy if you want to take pictures of nice clouds on a 'plane tho😊
Just done some checking on Nokias website and if you look in the accessories section under batteries and the 760mAh BL-5B battery - under the compatable phones it includes the N80 and N70.
If you look under the compatable phones for the the more powerful 900mAh BL-5C battery it says the N70 is also supported. From this I would assume that the N80 could also support this more powerful battery as the N70 supports both.
I have ordered an upgrade from my old 6230 to a new N80 with Vodafone and it should be here next week. My 6230 recently had a new battery fitted because the old one died and they gave me the 900mAh BL-5C battery so I'll try it in the N80 and let you know how I get on.

You can set it to search for a LAN every 10 mins though which should save some power..
turning off and on uses a lot of power, try leaving it on all the time

I didn't ask you to read this post...did I?
It is, from my opinion that 'I' feel that the battery life on a brand new Nokia phone was a bit short lived.
Now that I have a few more facts, 'I' feel, that the battery life may last as long as 'I' expected for a brand new Nokia phone.
If you think that a £3 battery (from Ebay  )is going to last more than or equal to a Nokia original then you are a bigger fool then your post makes you out to be.
Let's just remember that it takes a few charges/ discharges to get a battery up to full and working optimally, I have noticed that the battery meter on the N80 will stay full for a bout a day then drop to 3 bars, these then take an age to drop unless you start using the video camera, I have yet to actually discharge the battery and get it down to a warning appearing on the screen.
This may happen over the weekend tho'
