Hi All,
Just got my N80 and am having difficulty getting it to work with my existing wifi setup.
I am currently using a Linksys WRT54GS in WPA/PSK with TKIP encryption.
All other devices can connect to the internet through the router, but the N80 will not connect. It gives a "WPA authentication failed" message. I use an 8 digit key. Any help would be much appreciated. If I turn all encryption, keys and mac filtering off on the router, the phone does actually connect.
I'm also having problems with connecting to my router, using WPA encryption. Mine's a Speedtouch 716 router and most times I receive that same error message as you. However, sometimes it does successfully connect, so at least I know I have it set up correctly.
I've tried re-entering my 10 digit key and even deleting and then recreating the Access Point whn it refuses to connect, but that doesn't seem to work. I just keep persisting or come back later and eventually it succeeds. Also, rebooting my router seems to work too....not that I should need to do that as every other wireless device I've got connects without trouble.
I'm using a netgear router and can connect with my N80 under WPA.
Have you double checked the key being used? Checked CAPS, made sure the N80 is entering the correct digit/character. Apart from any MAC filtering you might have on your router, I'd say it has to be the key you're entering.
ISTR there's two flavours of WPA on the N80..? Have you tried the other version?

Hi Fatbloke, thanks for the reply. The key I use is an 8 digit numeric key, so it's not due to caps being entered incorrectly, and the key itself is being entered correctly. I downloaded Psiloc's hotspot finder, just in case it's the inbuilt program that is having difficulty. I have a Dell X50 PDA which using the built in wifi tools does not always connect, but with 3rd party software, it's so much easier. Same thing with laptops, but this time with ministumbler.
No matter what I do with the N80, it refuses to connect unless I remove the mac filter and encryption. For me, it was only the wifi which made me want the phone, so it's going back to Orange.
Cheers
Richard

Hmm, how did you set up the MAC filter - i.e. how did you find the MAC of the phone? Try it with MAC off and encryption on, that way you'll find out which of the two it is.
Odd that it can connect with the hotspot though...:con?
We have a wif network at work using WPA-TKIP and whilst I can connect I always get an error about "Web : No reply from gateway" yet I know it works because I'm posting this from it via my laptop

Good suggestion. I was having the same error message at first, and the reason turned out to be the MAC filtering. My resolution is
here.
to get nokia mac address *#62209526#
Mac filtering only necessary on your home wifi set up if really want to secure your network so only those physical machines can connect to your network. plus of course added network security.
My N80 connected up straight out of the box with my belkin g125 router
firmware v3.0617.0.6 rm-92 nokia n80 (58.01)
No problems with my Netgear router and MAC filtering, so although its wise to check it both on and off with MAC filtering, it shouldnt be the reason your N80 isnt connecting unless its a problem with the actual MAC addr being wrong. Theres a user on the thread superleccy has linked to that will convert it to what might be the correct one. :icon14:
Have you had a look at the DD-WRT firmware for Linksys routers? I use it for my Asus router (tho it supports the Linksys ones as well). DD-WRT has a decent standards compliancy as well as adding one or two features. I'm using that with WPA(1)-TKIP and it works fine. Might be worth checking out for you.

I have a buffalo wireless cable router with WPA PSK TKIP encryption on.
Once I save it as a access point on the N80 I dont have any issues - occasionally I get a "gateway not responding" error but thats quite rare.
Good advise is to update your router firmware (iron out an WPA bugs) and check the router that it is WPA TKIP and not WPA 802.11x or WPA2 (not sure if WPA2 would work on the N80).

What version of the WRT54GS do you have? I use my N80 with my WRT54GS v4 with v1.05.3 firmware and a 15 character alphanumeric WPA-PSK TKIP passphrase and MAC authentication without issue.
Hi gurus,
i am new to nokia n80 and am trying to configure access point with WPA-PSK authentication. My wireless access point has 64 char authentication key. But when i start entering the key on my mobile, it accepts only 63 chars.
how to make it accept 64 chars to make it work??
thanks
