Err.... *what's* asking you to upgrade? The Web browser? Or the web site, via text on the page?
And Java is totally different to Javascript - please give the exact message that appears.

The web site probably tries to detect which browser is connecting to it, and when it fails to recognize the 9500, it reports to change to a browser that supports JavaScript (even if the 9500 does).
It could also be that the site is trying some kind of test to see if the browser does support JavaScript and then the test fails (not necessarily, again, because the 9500 doesn't support JavaScript, but because the test is bad/wrong, or using some JavaScript feature/function that the 9500 doesn't support, or handles differently).
Probably nothing you can do, but the Hotmail/Yahoo! web designers/developers need to fix (allthough, if they have a "PDA", "mobile" or "text" version of their site, it will probably work better with the 9500).
