I know that the tomtom 5.21 does not work on the N80. ( just upgraded to the N80 from my old 6600)
I had the Nokia 6600 and a friend recently purchased the nokia N70 both symbian 60 phone working with tomtom
My question is : "why doesn't tomtom wotk with this new symbian 60 3rd gen phone? "
is there as work around to this? Tomtom view is that they may be an update at sometime to enable it to work on the n80 but not sure when!!!:frown:
Hi! 😊
I've just had a look at the specs for the N80 v the N70 and it could be that they have brought out the version for the N70 as it is GPRS/GSM only.(If I read it right at this time of the day)
You may wonder what this has to do with it but the N80 is a 3G capable phone and having played with a 3 paygo card I know that you can get street directions from the network on your phone.
It may be that as it is a 3g phone TomTom will be leaving it to the network providers to do the route mapping etc.
Having experienced both a TomTom 700 and the N80 I know that I would prefer the 700 in a car and the N80 in my hand.
On the other hand I could be totally barking up the wrong tree but

Well i hope that you are wrong...
Here in norway 3g coverage is still pretty bad, with areas without coverage (although covered with edge), and not to mention that it will cost me a minimum of 50kr (assuming tomtom quality graphics and directions and an unlimited day download).
And of course they ought to be able to get the money back with a resonable amount of time assuming not too large number of changed to the product. Versus the operator earning money on it.
I'll be crossing my fingers and hoping for a tomtom version for s60v3.

It has nothing to do with 3G, the N70 is also a 3G phone not just GPRS/GSM, but it is a Series 60V2 pnone, thats why Tom Tom works
The reason TomTom doesn't work with the N80 (and all other series 60V3 phones), is that all applications have to be recompiled and signed.
No software other than Java applications are compatible between Series 60V1 & 2 and the latest Version 3. So basically none of the software you have on your old phone will work on the new models
I am sure TomTom will get updated soon to work with N80, more and more software is being converted daily.
Thanks for the replies.
I read some where on this site of how to create a digital signature on the n80.
I suppose that this work around of creating a digital signature would not work as there would be a lot more on this site, gpspassion et al of how to work around this problem with symbain 60 3rd gen phone.
Suppose I will have to lug my trusty 6600 around with me for a bit longer. Will be a bit miffed if I have to shell out more money to get it to work on my new phone.
