The allTunes mobile client, which allows access to the allTunes music service (a service similar to iTunes), has been updated. The new version allows access to full song previews, account log in, and full track music download. The allTunes client is available for S60 1st, 2nd and 3rd Edition and UIQ 2.x phones.

The usual caveats about bankrupting yourself with sky-high GPRS charges apply though. I really think that this sort of software should come with big red warnings telling people how much bandwidth is required and emphasising that they should check the cost implications before signing up.

Its not that bad actually. Because the catalog is offline and because you can choose to download the actual files when you get to your PC (rather than on the mobile itself) I actually think it works.

Of course having a WiFi or umlimited 3G data enabled device makes it more usable!

I think putting warning everywhere would be a mistake. By all means explain it, but not everywhere. After all if the device is asking to connect implicit in that is that it will use data. What do people expect to happen if they download a 3mb MP3 file...

bjarke - I honestly don't know. There seems to be plenty of arguments about if you do a search on Google. Either way the technology / service is impressive.

Many people already have flat-fee GPRS / UMTS subscriptions, so data transfers aren't necessarily a problem.

In addition quite a few of the new S60 3rd Edition devices (Nokia ESeries and NSeries) have WLAN support, so it's easy to download large files when at home, office or some free public WLAN hotspot. Now people just need to learn to take advantage of these new possibilities.

I've noticed I've already done larger downloads at home and office WLAN with E61 and N91, even though I also have a 100 MB monthly mobile data plan.
