Hey this question might be a bit too local but I have just upgraded to a n80 on o2
Got it home to hopefully make video calls, but it says not supported by network, I live in Barnsley in South Yorkshire and according to o2's site video calling is not available....however Three's site shows full coverage...
Can anyone explain..?
I am also unable to get a 3g connection, is this beacuse of the same coverage problem or am I doing something wrong??
Many thanks
Yes 3G coverage varies from operator to operator. 3 generally have the best 3G coverage where as O2 lags a bit behind.
Basically 2G is one type of network technology and 3G is another type. While operators will generally have both 3G and 2G on a mast (well except 3) they will often only have 2G. 2G is the earlier technology. In theory masts are being upgraded, but it will take time and coverage may never be total.
Video needs 3G and thus when you have no 3G coverage you can't use it.
If the symbol below your signal strength looks like an aerial then it's in a 2G area and can't make video calls, it will say "3G" if it's in a 3G area. Try going to your near major town or city centre. Also the other person will need to be in 3G coverage.
Hi.
I am in Havercroft (near Barnsley) and was thinking of going with O2, Maybe I will look at Orange or three.!
Gary
Thanks for the infomation, according to o2's site things are not going to improve any in the next 9months....
I would suggets anyone that needs this find an alternate network :icon13:
Will do mate.
If you get chance have a drive through Havercroft/Hemsworth area and let me know if it works.
Gary
Make sure NETWORK MODE in network settings is set to DUAL MODE.
Just a thought! (It should default to dual mode anyway... i doubt you set it to 2g only)
winker,
Im in Sheffield so Id say thats a major town. Yesterday in the town center, I was sat with an N80 t-mobile user and we both had 3G networks in full swing. (mines on Voda)
No matter which way we tried to video call we got the same message :icon13:
as the one you got. SO I dunno if changing providers would help! 😉
Have you found any more info on this??
