I have read almost every board here and cannot figure out what is wrong. I am using a 9300, and cannot figure out how to access gmail using the 'messaging' function. I set up my gmail account to Enable POP for all mail (even mail that's already been downloaded). I am using cingular with the following settings:

email name- gmail
my name - (my name)
username - [email protected]
password - (password)
my email addy - [email protected]
internet access - media net

email account type - pop3
outgoing server - cwmx.com
incoming - pop.gmail.com
use smtp auth - no

please help, i am going nuts here.... thanks

I think Google uses security settings too (it should be set to SSL iirc) - have you looked into this (probably listed under advanced settings).

I use 9500. I guess the settings must be similar. The following points are set different in my case when compared to yours:

outgoing server:smtp.gmail.com
use smtp auth.: yes
smtp password: password

Under advanced settings:

Incoming Secure Connection:SSL/TLS
Outgoing Secure Connection:SSL/TLS

It may worth trying.

Thanks - that worked. One more question thouhg! In gmail, I archive a message, then d/l messages using my nokia 9300, the program with my nokia d/l's all messages, including archives. I am scared to delete the messages on the phone, due to them being deleted in gmail. How can I get only my inbox d/l , OR if it is possible to delete the messages from my phone and not my gmail account, how is that done? All your help is greatly appreciated.

I assume in "Advanced settings";

"Copy my e-mail account" is "Yes".

Then if you delete the text messages locally on your mobile, the messages in your gmail account will be safe. Leaving them in "inbox" or "archive" will not make any difference. Both ways they will be safe.

To check:

1) From a different e-mail address send two test messages (test1 and test2) to your gmail account using your pc or mobile phone.
2) On your mobile using your gmail accont retreive e-mail, open both of the messages and exit
3) Go to your PC. Open your gmail account. You will see both "test1" and "test2" in your "inbox"
4) Now archive "test1", leave "test2" in the "inbox", logoff
5) On your mobile, using "menu" delete locally "test1" and "test2".The message bodies will be deleted but the "headers" will stay.
6) Retrieve e-mail once more. You will see both"test1" and "test2" headers disappear and you will see "No messages in this box"
7) Now go to your PC. Open your account. You will see "test1" and "test2" waiting there for you in "archive" and "inbox" respectively ( I hope...)

Hi Ademir,

I am using a different phone (nokia e61) and check my gmail with the messaging app.

What happens is that after I have read a mail with the messaging app (and it hence had to retrieve the entire message) the read mail disappears when checking for new mail. It says updating inbox and the read mail is gone... Have you got any idea what that could be?

So just to be clear, I did not delete the message after reading it, it just disappears when checking mail the next time.

It's got me puzzled and Nokia is not really replying so far.

Regards,
Chris

Hi Chris,

I donot own a nokia e61 so I do not know what setting options are available. However, if I were you I would look to find an option in the settings (or advanced settings) "Copy my e-mail account". If it is there, then I would set it to "Yes". Thus the mail would stay in inbox until you delete it, (I hope).

I think this is to do with the settings for POP3 in Gmail. Change it to keep mail in the Google mail box.
