E61 browser, opening new window

Hmmm... how come no one reply to this thread?

Is it because no one knows how?
Or my question isn't clear enough? hehehe...
Or maybe there isn't any such function?

I can't work this one out. Sounds like a good idea, but the only time it happenes is for pop ups (i.e. you can't do it manually). However feel free to correct me.

Yep you're correct.

So I guess this falls into the category "Nokia left out the basic function for whatever reason" hehehehe...

But I would still consider the E61 a great phone but not yet perfect and there wont be a perfect phone =)
The bugs or missing function I can still live with it... so far though... this is my second week with the E61, replacing my samsung D600 and iPaq 4150...

With every possible feature someone is missing and wants in a device, no amount of memory or performance would be enough.

Luckily, these are programmable devices, so new features and functionality can often be added by add-on applications (at least when it is not something that the system does not allow to be changed or overridden).

I think that for the moment the only solution is Opera :icon14:

Agree. The main problem with the Nokia browser is that it requires a fair bit of memory. Opeing two web pages at the same time will significantly increase the memory use, it I assume this is why it has been left out.

If you need this feature, you need to try Opera, which has got the multiple windows functinality.

Hmmm that doesn't seems to be the reason why Nokia left out the function, cause I can switch to other windows that are opened by pop-up.. so its clear enough that multiple windows ia applicable.

Is Opera free? and how's your review on it... is it better than the nokia default browser? pros and cons?

Opera isn't free, otherwise everyone would include it on their phone. There's a rather good "Opera vs S60 Browser" article on the official S60 blog:

And you're right, the browser can clearly cope with two windows at once so it's difficult to know why they don't let the user spawn a second window manually.

Thanks for the link for the review page of those two browser. For me personally, I will stick with the S60 default browser and the biggest factor on this is... its FREE hahahaha...

The S60 browser is definitely a vast improvement on the old "services" one.

Buying Opera or Netfront used to be essential if you wanted to see the web properly on an S60 smartphone, but nowadays it's not really necessary.

Besides, you can get Opera Mini for free. 😊 It's a nice little alternative browser that I use all the time for some sites where I want to be able to navigate more easily. Opera Mini allows for 'page up/down' by simply pressing the joystick sideways. And it uses very little bandwidth - which is useful when there is no W-LAN network available.

you can try opera for 30 days and after you can make your choise...

I think Opera is worth it for the small screen rendering option, espeically on the E60 and E70 (less of a problem perhaps on the E61).
