WARNING!! :icon4:
I bought my SanDisk 1GB miniSD card of eBay for 25 and it was shipped from Hong Kong. The card works on my PC but when I connect it to the N80 it says 'memory card corrupted.' I've phoned SanDisk and they checked the serial number and said it was a fake and thats why it doesnt work in the phone. :frown: The card has correct SanDisk markings and a hologram at the back with serial starting with DAA.. SanDisk said the serial should start with BB.
Has anyone else had the same problem? :con?
I purchased a 2gb SanDisc card for 55.46 including delivery, I just checked out that link and it is a fake but seems to work fine, maybe its a bit slower than an original i dont know, but it does work and has 2gb capacity..
Maybe it was still worth it?? :con?
yeah who cares if it works the same?
Stupid question, but isn't it just formatted in a wrong way?
Yeah the problem is mine doesn’t work in the phone.
I keep getting the message 'memory card corrupted'
The Nokia N80 does attempt to format the card but the screen disappears after doing 2% of it.

Do you have a card reader? If you do then try to plug the card in it and see how it is formatted(if you can get the PC to see it)
I can connect the card to a computer successfully and can read/write to it.
What do you mean by "see how it is formatted" ?
I bought a 2gig card from Hong Kong...the seller had good feedback. Anyway it arrived today and doesn't work....not recognised by phone or card reader. Found this thread and can see that the serial number is likely a fake (mine starts with BE) and it arrived in a small plastic ziplock bag stapled to the receipt!
I've left negative feedback....not impressed and wish I'd read the eBay link first...

What formatting system it uses.
When you go into My Computer and you can see the SD card, click (once) and to the left it should say one of these three: FAT, FAT32 or NTFS. An MiniSD card formatted for a phone should be FAT. If it is one of the two others, then format it to FAT with Windows

hmm... mine arrived in a proper sandisk box, in a plastic container along with an sd adapter?

I checked the format and it was in FAT32, so I formatted the card to FAT and inserted it back into the phone. But it still says 'memory card corrupted.' Now that its in a FAT format i tried formatting the card with the phone but this doesnt work too.:con?
Can you please advise.
Thanks

Can you format it from the phone now?
No, the window appears to format then disappears after 1 second. Is it ok to format a miniSD card with a PC? The miniSD card I got with the phone works perfectly well. I did notice that when I insert the card I got with the phone to the PC it gets recognised as a card but with my card that doesn’t work on the phone, it shows up as a removable disk.
Big problem here as well. Bought Sandisk 2Gb mini SD off Ebay and my N80 keeps telling me "no memorycard". So it's not seen at all or even a chance to format or what so ever. Mailed the seller if a refund or card swap is possible.
The card does work on my camera and PC. Maybe strange.
I got the 'no memorycard' message from phone too.... only on one occasion (out of many!) did the card reader lights even flicker as if recognising there was a card to read....
Dead card/Fake card
Now the eBay seller is emailing me in broken English calling me a friend!! and suggests I return it via registered post so they can assess it- more cost to me....I'm going to cut my losses and be done with them...
This is not a card error but a problem with the phone. I have tried 2 different 2gb cards (Sandisk/Mobymemory) and I have the same problem with "corrupt card" and it not being able to format.
I have checked both card thoroughly in my pc and they are fine (format/chkdsk/copy files on and off).
Hopefully this is fixed in a future firmware upgrade.
Hmm... Try defragging it and errorchecking it from the Windows properties menu..
