Hello,
I've noticed an increase in the number of threads asking about performing firmware updates at home.
What is AAS's position on this? I've locked the threads I've seen relating to this as they've all resulted in people asking where to obtain firmware files from, which as far as I know, are copyright of Nokia and shouldn't be available to the general public.
Thanks
Still thinking about this. Thoughts welcome.
Wasn't Nokia going to introduce internet-based firmware updates anyway? I can't see what they have to lose by the latest firmware files being available to consumers.
They haven't introduced this yet though have they? And it'll only be for the newer S60 3rd Edition devices, correct?
Therefore I maintain my view that we shouldn't help people obtain firmware files unless Nokia expressly allow it as they are copyrighted.
Just my opinion 😊

Don't get me wrong, I agree with you, we shouldn't distribute anything illegally on here.
I'm just a bit at a loss to explain Nokia's logic in denying people access to firmware files. What possible harm could it do? It's not like people can download the actual phones is it?
I think it could be something to do with licences for 3rd party applications bundled in the ROM such as RealPlayer and the new games included in later N-Series 😊
I'm now removing links where I see them. Discussion is OK (in theory I think), but direct links are a no no.
I agree - does seem stupid to limit. Clearly it wouldn't be that hard for them to release something that works now to keep people happy. Just have a no guarantee disclaimer.
