This one is probably in the book but I never saw it.
Whenever you are in any menu or app click the END CALL key and you go back to the standby screen.

I found that out 2 years ago wiyh the nokia 6600 then 6630, its always been like that..
I think virtually every Nokia does the same thing. I remember it used to do the same thing on my old 3210.
This is my first Nokia ever. Previously been a Sony Ericsson fan. I was probably still correct that it is not in the manual because Nokia assume everyone (and their grannie) knows this.
thanks.
Like previously stated, it's always been a quick "back to front screen" shortcut on Nokia S40 handsets that I am familiar with. With the S60s (6630/6680 to my knowledge) however that trick used to leave applications running and would eventually lead to the phone slowing as it was in effect "minimizing" the apps and clogging the memory.
The N80 seems to close the apps down which is, IMHO, better.
Another little thing for ya if you dont know.. when you hold the menu button dowm 4 a couple of seconds a list of all the applications running appears.. Can be prety handy..
Also from the standby screen, holding # toggles silent/general profile (if you don't have line 2 enabled).
Holding 0 launches services (WAP).
Holding the right soft key starts voice dialling/commands.
Holding the multimedia key launches gallery, as opposed to pressing it which opens the multimedia menu (you can change the application that opens when you press the multimedia key)

Holding down my multimedia key takes me directly to the music player 😊..must be configured differently for different phones.
To change it just press the multimedia key, then press down (configure) and change the "Multimedia Key" option to whatever you want. (e.g. Bluetooth, Web..)

That I did not know! It is something I've always appreciated with my SE K750 and I thank you for pointing that out! 😊
lots of shorcuts lol, my first s60 phone was a N-GAGE, i really loved it, now i gave it to my brother and he is really happy i bought it a 1GB MMC, now he plays listen music etc, now i got my Black N80 latest firmware with a 2GB miniSD, omg S60 PWNS 😎
Just to remind you who don't know yet. I am currently running a weblog called http://S60Tips.com. There are some postings about shortcuts in S60 phones, including # to switch between General/Silent, 0 to launch browser, etc, etc.
Just give a visit and subscribe the RSS if you are interested.
i hate the fact that when i press red to 'minimise' apps the n80 closes most things 😞 i liked to use the feature a lot on my 6680 to minimise while writing a txt to do something else or when i didnt have a lot of time, then i could just hold menu and go straight back into my partly written txt, with n80 it closes and saves to drafts 😞
This is a seriously lacking problem in the N80 compated to my 6680. As said when you write a text and hit the red button if you want to do something else and come back to the text it loses ALL the info instead of minimizing it so you can come back to it.
Does this with loads of other applications too, very annoying!:icon13:
That's a behaviour chance since S60 2nd Edition Feature Pack 3 (S60 2.8). First such phones were the N90 and N70.
Prior to that the red/end/hangup key switched to the menu and left the foreground app in the background.
Now the red key immediately closes the foreground app (if the app has not been excplicitely designed to not to do that).
This is an unfortunate behaviour change in my opinion, too.
The workaround is, of course, to use the menu key to switch to another app or the menu, instead of pressing the red key.
hey here http://s60tips.com/ says that N80 has XPressMusic to synchronize music files with WMP but i cany get the option of Media player when i get the usb cable conected to my n80, i got the latest firmware and i dont have the option.

it isnt lost, it saves it to drafts, but still annoying to go back and reopen it especially when its so slow to change folders 🙄

Just press the menu key rather than the end call key. This is a massive improvement over the old method whereby you had to exit every application manually.
