Sloppy slider

OK my only gripe is the sloppiness of the slider - is everyone else's the same or have I got a duff one? When closed, the screen part seems very rocky, it gives a mill or two each way as you waggle it.

Also, when shut it is not particularly secure. It tends to open at the slightest touch, when one-handedly powerning off it will slip apart or when it's in my pocket.

I can hold the phone by its screen and, when moving down sharply, can get the whole phone to open up by the weight of the phone alone - is that normal?

take it back and get a replacement, it shouldnt be like that, my slider is solid as a rock, the screen does seem to slide open quite easy, especially when taking out of my pocket, I have gotten used to digging deep and hooking my hand under it now when I take it out of my pocket

Don't worry about it. They are nearly all like that. Everyone I know and that I have spoken to (and there are numerous threads here) have said there is play in the slider. Mine also opens if I hold the screen and shake it violently, although why you feel this is a valid test is byond me, unless you always hold your phone by the screen and jump up and down a lot.

I took mine back to the Orange shop and the other seven I looked at were all the same.

Maybe I am lucky, my slider is very tight and feels very solid and smooth to slide with no play at all 😊

Me and a friend got our N80s from Orange around the same time and my slider feels a lot stronger than his. His seems to open (and close) a lot easier than mine. I guess they're all slightly different!

I'd have thought some sort of mechanical latch, or an interference fit might have been better. I might try getting another to see.

And just now, it crashed on me giving the message "Unable to begin phone startup sequence. Return to your retailer"!!

I had to de-battery it but I've not has that one before - maybe it heard me talking about its sloppiness..

my phone is also like this. nice and solid and the slider has just the right amount of resitance to opening. even if i use a lot of force i can only get the screen part to move sideways about 1/5 of a millimeter.

Silver, I didnt like the black..

Just found out how to make my slider tight and free from play - I replaced the silver cover with a black one I got from eBay and the phone is now rock solid.

Shame about the silver keys, but it looks cool in a weird way.
