hi I'm new to all this new technology I have a n80 so popped down to pcworld and got a wifi router a (Linksys wireless-g router model wrt54gs) I have got it all working with the security turned off but the range is about 15 meters I will admit that that is through two walls 1 solid, 1 plaster.
Is there anything I could do to increase range ?

15 meters?? Whats the problem.. My laptop will reach 15 meters alright but n80 will only reach half that distance but its still plenty..

Just measured the distance its more like 10 meters which is the same as my bluetooth is there no way to increase the range, settings etc its just that the cable wi fi point is about 25 meters from the living room . Any suggestions ?

Try elevating the access point as much as you can. If necessary buy a longer bit of ethernet cable. You can also get WiFi repeaters (these work quite well for me). Other than that do a quick Google on the subject. You can make home made parabolic aerials to stick on ther existing aerial which can improve range.

Thank you very much for the advice. tried moving it higher but to no avail, have had a look on the web there is no connections for a external aerial . Its all getting a tad complicated probably take it back . I'm amazed by the lack of range that wifi has .

You could try experimenting by changing the router channel. I use the same model router and get an adequate signal on my N80 15m from the router through 1 interior and 2 external walls.

You should be able to unscrew the aerials at the rear of the router to replace them with more effective items - the most important thing is to determine what type of connecter you need ("reverse SMA" is one type - you should be able to find some information on the connector types using that phrase via Google).

Thanks Guys for your advice I was about to take it back just typing this out on the phone, I like the k9 sort of gizmo aerials.
Just one question how do you get wifi at airportscafes, hotels etc with such a limited range, I thought it would be at least a 100 meters or so.
