I know there are several posts about this topic, so please apologise me for that, but I have spent the last 3 hours looking for a solution and I am not able to find one.
I am connecting to the internet through an ADSL modem with some Vnet client.
I want to connect the E61 with my laptop by Ad-Hoc, as I don't have a WiFi router.
The current IP of the phone is 192.168.0.10. Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 and Gateway 192.168.0.1
The IP of the WiFi adapter is 192.168.0.1, Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 and Gateway 192.168.0.1
I get the error "no getway reply". The phone and the computer connects very quickly, but when it tries to browse, there is the message.
I've tryed with several configurations and several IP configurations: WEP enabled, disabled, DHCP... but the best way, as I get connection between the two units, is with WEP disabled and Fixed IP. I don't know if I have to put another gateway because it gets in conflict with the modem. I've tried already with several numbers, with no success. Why DHCP does not work?
Any suggestions?
Does anybody know yhy the Nokia Phone tools cannot connect with the phone by WiFi?
I forget to say that the phone hangs a lot while trying to configure the WiFi. I just bought it today, and I have had like 10 hangs, one of them writing a two page e-mail without saving it... Nevertheless, very nice phone, hope that with future firmware upgrades will be solved.

No way this thing works... Tryed DHCP, but I don't get connection with DHCP.
I don't think ithe problem comes from the WEP configuration. Now it is configurated as Open System, but tryed several ways.
Maybe the easier way would be to buy a true AP device?
I have a N93 but I have the exact same problem. I tried all configurations I found, even changed the Ad-hoc channel, and I get the "no reply" error =/
I am sorry my spanish? isnt that good, but to run a connection adhoc you will need to have the machine connected to the internet setup with internet connection sharing so that the host pc will give out dhcp requests and authentication.

Hello auriga, Sorry I noticed this post very late! It's about 3 months since I got my E61! Right from the start I wanted to start browsing the net via wLan. I thought, what's the point getting a wLan router just for my E61. So I turned to Ad-Hoc wLan. At the start, I just made a new Ad-Hoc preferred network (network authentication is open, and data encryption is disabled) with the default windows wLan utility, and then enabled internet connection sharing on my net connection to be shared via "Wireless Network Connection". Then I searche for the available wLan in my E61, found my ad-hoc network and defined it as my access point. Next I went to the web browser to try it, selected the Ad-Hoc network as my access point and it got connected to the network and after few seconds i was able to browse. I cant figure out how you all have problems. Oh allright i have problems at some times where my ad-hoc network isnt available. So I just delete that preferred ad-hoc network and make it again. Then it works again. Happens rarely and few times tho. I don't mind!
Any assistance needed, ask me!
