Does anyone use there n80 at work or college/uni where they need to be authenticated to access the net. my n80 works great at home via my wireless network but at work I am authenticated with my logon credentials.
Please let me know as I am going crazy trying to get n80 working
i would like to use any wireless connetion also, but if its password protected surly there is a way round?
I know its very very irritating, I cover many sites with wireless but they all use a proxy that requires user authentication. All windows mobile devices have these feature, how come nokia missed it from the n80......its suppose to be an office phone...
u mean to say N80 cannot connect to networks that have security features and require a username/password or a network? what nonsense! is this really the case? HOW lame is that?
The N80 is actually a consumer phone. I'm not sure what the problem you're having is. The N80 does support the various secure forms of WiFi (WEP / WAP etc.)...
Have you tried creating an Access Point in Settings->Connections based on the WiFi point?
If you need to use a proxy I would imagine this might be something you need to set in Settings, though I don't think so in this context (sorry don't quite understand what you mean).
Sorry to confuse I will try and explain.
I have had no problem creating and using a Wireless Access Point - with WEP Security.
The problem arises when the at work. The Wireless Points we use connect to our network which before it gets to the internet requires a Proxy Server. Which also requires Authentications. My PC gets round this as it uses my logon credentials (username and password I use to sign on to my PC)
However on the phone all I get is an ERROR...
Im a Computer Technician, so I know about setting up networks and have tried everything I can think of...

I had the same probblem on my college network. Coz i need to enter my username pass to access it i couldnt do it from the phone.
But N80 worked great on hot spots.
I would assume there's extra software for networking in the PC that handles this. I'm not sure you'll be able to do anything. The only way would be to log in via webpage or talk to your network admin.
I can find proxy address/port under advanced settings of a wlan access point. There's no proxy username/password setting though, is that what you'd need?
im getting confused. i havent bought the device yet and now this is confusing me if i should or should not. Rafe could you please explain what this is about?
i do have WEP at my house without mac filtering. i have a network key. cant i use the internet at home? please explain what this is about
zainman - yes it will work fine.
The above is about the need to log onto a network using a username and password as you might have to do to access your home PC.

and why cant we log on to a network using a username and pass? what actually is network authentication?
what do you mean when you say log onto a network using a username and pass? my network is like that. and you say it will work fine?
would appreciate help
For WiFi authentication you need to create an access point. Proxy servers can be defined in the advanced settings of the access point. However there does not seem to be a setting for proxy server authentication.
