n80 problem

Hi

Just bought my n80 phones 2 days back and have a problem (though not serious) when i get an incoming call i cant view the callers name as it appears very distorted and stretched (like the phone has hanged). i tried calling my number from the office landline and it doesnt have any problem, the caller name appears very clearly. however it happens again with any other call. dont know if firmware upgrade would solve this. I removed the battery, rebooted the phone, disabled active standby and 3G just in case if its a memory problem.

Details of phone.

V 3.0614.0.3
11-04-2006
RM-92
Nokia N80 (01)

Please advise.

Maybe, I would get the firmware upgraded anyway because it does solve some quite bad problems like memry and mem card problems, you can take your N80 to a Nokia service center or try to upgrade yourself.

Where do you live, the language pack depends on this

I just saw you have V01 language pack, so you just need to download this one which is included in the first download

Hi guyz

i live in UAE (Dubai). however i solved the problem temporarily. actually i changed the ringing tone from mp3 to the standard nokia tune and it seems to work fine. but still i shud not have the problem while my ringing tone is a mp3 file. i will upgrade my firware and see if it solves the problem.

Thanks.

Might be worth using a cut-down MP3 for the ringtone as using a large MP3 file has caused issues for me in the past (on other phones) - probably due to memory issues.

I tend to cut down my MP3 ringtones to 30 seconds (ie until the call diverts) and use a lower bit rate. I've kept this approach on my N80.

HTH

well i had no problems with large mp3 files as ringtones, i use 180 kbps bitrate abd its ok

I figured out exactly what the problem is. its not the ringtone or memory. this happens only when the phone is in standby mode, the screen is off and then a call comes in. the caller name is heavily distorted and the caller name is not visible. i think this is a firmware problem. however i m going to disable sleep mode and then see what happens.

Just saw this in another post about somebody who had messages when installing software and flashing his phone, but he continued and it worked for him

Just flashed N80, takes a while but great improvements so far. web browser seems much quicker and without error msgs (sites like www.engadget.com)

It was worring with some of the messages that appeard while instaling the software and while flashing but just "OK"d them all anyway..

*#0000# Now displays:

V3.0617.0.6
03-05-2006
RM-92
Nokia N80 (01)

It also doesnt loose much info from the phone like calendar entries and message settings, network settings, etc.. but it does seem to loose phone contacts and resets the phone lock code to 12345..

So far so good so. tnx all..

But as always its your risk if you want to try this !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

musema,

Got the same message when I upgraded my phone. I hesistated at first but decided to go ahead anyway. Upgrade was successful so I guess it's safe to do so...

A big THANKS to all you guyz here who provided real valuable inputs and prompt replies. I flashed my phone using the detailed instructions and the softwares supplied on this forum. If you do it right and follow the instruction correctly there is no way anything would go wrong. I successfully flashed my phone and now have the latest firmware. the original problem is now resolved and the phone is working absolutely fine. Most of all, the contacts, music files, images were not lost at all. i dont know how this happened cuz when u take it to the service centre they just give you the phone as it was when bought with all data lost. However i had a backup of the phone just in case if i would need it but i didnt have to use the backup at all.

This the best forum by any standards.
