Microsoft Appreciate Their Developers (ironic)

Have a look at this very interesting read at The Register. It appears that all the courting and PR momentum built up with the Mobius Conference is about to be damaged. Developers are being asked to pay up to $600 per application to get their Orange SPV Stinger apps Microsoft Certified - and without that certificate the apps won't run on the SPV. Symbian's Developer Support doesn't seem at all bad this morning...

So it works like this:

1 - Develop your app on the Windows simulator
2 - Send to Orange / M$ to get certification
3 - Get told it doesn't work on the real device
4 - Give up and write for PalmOS / SymbianOS

Slight addition to the above...

(1) Develop Stinger App on your pre-release devloper Stinger
(1a) ... which doesn't need certification to install apps.
(2) Wait for SPV release to get the cash rolling in.
(3) Realise your apps you've spent weeks on needs certified.
(4) etc,etc,etc
