ok,
Tried to flash my n80, and ive ended up with a paper weight.
here is the problem i had, just so someone else can avoid this.....
The Flashing procedure
=================
The 2 first flash stages were successful...
It then asked me to turn on the phone...
I did, but couldnt get passed the "turn on phone, and press ok", message...
I have now read that what i should have done is:
"remove the cable and the battery before reconnecting to the software."
can anyone confirm this is the correct procedure, and i bloody wish this was documented on http://nokia.dogtoe.com/ !!!
anyways...
does anyone have any info on how to get it back to life?
Tried phoenix procedure again, but the soft cant communicate with phone, as my phone is now a soulless n80 😞
will take it back to the shop tommorrow see what they say...
"uhmm my phone just stopped working" springs to mind...
ut.

I followed dogtoe instructions and I had no problems, I didnt need to remove my battery
Can you get into the phone to reste with #7370# (I think)
damn,
really dont understand what i did wrong then....
Found this document about dead phone re-flashing...
http://www.yourfilehost.com/media.php?cat=other&file=Dead_Phone_USB_flashing.pdf
Will let you know how i get along...

When i turn the phone on, i just get a white screen.
Also I cant turn the phone off once its on, only way is to remove the battery.
Cant find the options to do what that "Dead Phone USB flashing.pdf" says.
Think im running out of options..
RIP N80 😞

Just a quick thought, was your battery fully charged when you started the flashing process, I know that a low battery can create problems

Ok..should have been ok .. not sure what else you can try
found this nice thread about reviving a dead BB5 phone, which the N80 is...
http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb//forum/thread/280073/
Seems no reviving without some special hw...
oh well, RIP N80....
will try my service provider tommorrow with the "stupid client - dead phone" approach, and if that doesnt work will go to my Nokia service centre...

Wirelessly posted (NOKIA 6630: NokiaN80-1/3.0 (3.0617.0.5) Series60/3.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1)
wen i flashed my n80 it didnt ask me to turn fone on, it did it its self in safe mode and then rebooted and told me flashing was a succes and to remove my n80 frm data cable and that was it, i did a full format and not had a prob since! did u folow the guide on dogtoe.com? start again and turn fone on so ur white screen of death shows up and try re flashing with it like that, it mite work it mite not but its worth a try!
hello,
thanks for the replies.
After lots of reading, i have come up to the following conclusions:
Unfortunatly there is currently no way to revive a bad flash on a N80 without some specialist hardware.
People are working on getting phoenix 2006 to work fully, but this is not possible yet via the 2004 + patch procedure.

did you install the 2006 pheonix ?
tried what what that thread digicon pointed out,
but cant get the Firmware update option.
could be i didnt install everything right, and also people there saying dead phone recovering dont work yet.
anyways, think quickest option is going into town this afternoon to get either a replacement phone or a dead phone reflash from the nokia service centre...

have you got the link for digicon ?
If you didnt upgrade the cracked 2004 pheonix with the 2006 then it wont flash your phone correctly ..
you can recover a dead phone because I know somebody who did it by reflashing
hmm thats good news,
the person u know who reflashed was it a n80?
gonna redo a fresh install of all the malarky and see,

Yes it was, I cant remember who it was, but his battery went flat halfway through his flash and it killed his phone, so he started again after recharging and it flashed successfully, but you must follow the instructions EXACTLY otherwise you will have problems, it took me 4 attempts to flash my phone, most of the problems I had were installing the software correctly,
Just follow the instructions in my post (copied from dogtoe) http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum//forum/thread/46864/
And I hope it works for you, let me know
Just found the post from the guy who's phone died
"MAJOR DEVELOPMENT!
You will laugh at this after all the warnings I have given.
So i got the aforementioned new phone from Orange just now and started flashing it.
Of course the sodding battery was only risidual charge and subsequently died during flashing!
It stopped at 90% and said flashing failed.
After this phone is as dead as a dodo, no screen, no charging indicator, no nothing 😞
So i reconnected it to the USB cable after a bit of a charge and tried to send the flash file again, it warned me it couldnt find a device and did i want to send the flash anyway. I said yes and off it went! The phone is now back to life with the updated firmware!!!!!!!!!!!!! PHEW!
SO I CONCLUDE YOU CAN STILL FLASH EVEN IF YOU FUCK IT UP. LOOLOLOL"
He must have been very lucky, probably his failed at a different part from mine...
just reinstalled all the mallarky. (diego, phoenix2004, cable driver, phoenix2006)
1) Tried to reflash via USB connection, doenst get passed "trying to verify communication" and gives me the error "failed to verify communication"
2) Tried the "recover dead phone" approach, via the newly hacked phoenix 2006 exe and new framework dll. Apperently this should allow for the "Firmware Update" menu to appear, which is what we need to recover from a dead flash, however i can not get the menu to appear for my N80.
thats it, i give up... off to town 😉

Good look, probably best not mention that you tried to flash it yourself, just play dumb..
well good news is that im getting a new N80 sent to me.
bad news is i went down to my nokia service centre, and when he checked the phone he told me it was from saudia arabia, and hence was not entitled for support in europe. Otherwise would have gotten them to reflash it for me...
Told my service provider about this and that i was not a happy bunny, they guaranteed me that the replacement n80 will be european. time will tell....
ut.
Is the firmware for flashing in in the ram or the rom? Does the phone have any rom? It surprises me that it's necessary to overrite the support for flashing given that that code probably doesn't need to change much and once it's working don't mess with it. so does Nokia keep the bootstrap code for flashing in ram or rom?
