New E70 - WM5 was quite good.....

Still getting to grips with my E70 and Symbian 9.1
I've not used a Nokia or non-touch screen device for nearly 2 years, and it takes getting use to again.

1. Messages
On the E70 in Messages (email or SMS) you have to select "Add contacts" and non predictivly select the person and then the number.

On WM5 (Windows Mobile 5) you can type the name of the person (T9 style) and it brings a picklist from possible contacts, with all posibilities (ie Comapany name and/or person first and/or last names).

This is great when you have a company contact, but cannot remember their name - you enter the comany name, and the person appears - on the Nokia you have to remember their name, as company only shows if the name field is blank.

Is there any SMS application or add-in to improve this on older symbian systems - and if so will we see it ported to S60v3 ?

2. Calander
The snooze funtion on the calander cannot be set for snooze 15mins, or 1hr, but only the default (5 mins?). This can only be snoozed 3-4 times, then the only option is Stop.
Have I missed a setting somewhere?

3. Profile Volume
There seems to be no way to have a different ringing volume to an Alarm or Message notification volume (Other than recording your own at differing volumes)
Again, have I missed a setting?

Overall, I love my E70, and I've even got used to my non-UK QWERTZ keyboard that's littered with German umlauts!😊

But there is some great little features in WM5 that Symbian/Nokia could adapt.

Yep there's a learning curve in using a non-touch screen from a touch screen device, especially with my Nokia E61 cause the screen is big like a touch screen =P I actually pressed the screen at first unconsciously.

Yeah that feature from WM would be very nice to be applied into the symbian OS.

Youre right I was asking the same question last time in the forum: Calendar appointment alarm snooze interval settings
Another feature from WM that would be nice to be applied into the symbian OS.

Hmmmm yeah youre right, there isnt any (as I know off) too bad

Im also quite satisfied with my Nokia E61 although there are some bugs or missing feature that should be implemented which I could still live with it, but again nothing is perfect.

I too am an ex-ipaq user my self and in my opinion there are a few upside on the symbian versus WM, like:
Symbian: contacts are more flexible; you can add detail, rename the label, and add as many mobile numbers as you like (people these days have more than one mobile right).
WM: the fields in contacts are fixed to a certain amount and theres only one mobile number field then some more you cant edit the field name.

But I guess the WM has more pros against the symbian. Maybe anyone else can list down the plus and minus between those two.

1. There's a couple of implementation that do this sort of thing (though they work from the idle screen) - i.e. smart dilaing.. Nothing for 3rd Edition yet though.

2. Yes I think this is right. I agree longer snooze options would be nice.

3. No you are right there too.

Swicthing platforms is always interesting. Each platform has its won foibles (e.g. WM Send menu and other menu strcutures). To be honest I don't think there's a lot of difference feature wise for much of the software (i.e. its technically possible to do things). I think where S60 wins out is in the simplicty / usability stakes for the less techy user. I also think the hardware is often better specified and built (though of course that's a generalisation).

Ohh Smart Dialing in WM5 is VERY cool.
Is there one for older Symbian models ?
Is it worth e-mailing the developers to get them to re-compile it for 3rd Edition?
