Flickr Uploader for Nokia N72 (and N70, N90)

Nokia has released the Flickr uploading tool for the Nokia N72. Although unsupported, it also works on the Nokia N70 and N90. The tool allows you upload images to Flickr from both the built-in Camera and Gallery applications. You can configure the upload to send the original or a medium or small-sized image.

Nokia's uploader is clearly the best option. Shozu may have its features, ok, but it's constantly running in the background leeching RAM and making the phone slower! That is simply unacceptable, at least for me.

Nokia's uploader does not affect RAM in any way, it's just a couple of entries in Symbian's "registry" to put another menu entry to open an app that is constantly sleeping until you call him, such as any other application. Very good Nokia 😉

It's a bit misleading to say that shozu slows the phone down, or uses a lot of ram. It has one small daemon that stays running in the background, barely taking up any space at all. I'm using it on the 6681, one of hte lower memory s60 phones out there, without any issues whatsoever. No slowing, no memory problems.

I think Shozu is the better option in many ways since you can set it to upload automatically. Its also worth noting that such daemons are quite common place on Symbian OS and are very lightweight. I believe there's an event notification in the OS that programs can register too to be woken up when a given event occurs.

I'm annoyed since there is no option for 3rd Edition phone users. Hopefully Nokia-Flickr client will be available after N93 and N73 ship. And what about Shozu, no 3rd Ed. version yet?

I thought that's what Lifeblog provided. It's what I use to get pics from my N80 to Flickr, with a minimum of fuss - Select picture, Menu> Post to web, Job done.

Its coming for 3rd Edition too (whether it will be phone limited is another matter).

ShoZu are working on a 3rd Edition client. It will probably be rolled out along with their big service update.

ShoZu for S60v3 is now Symbian Signed and will be available for download from www.shozu.com next week (w/o 10th July 2006).

It would be great to see a full comparison of the three apps on All About Symbian.

atiller - I think we may well do a roundup / comparison 😊 Seems to be rather a popular thing to do.

There's some other Flickr apps coming soon too.

dolf - ohhh interesting (and nice) [nice baby too!].
