N91- can't refresh music list

7 replies · 6,586 views · Started 07 July 2006

Hi all,

My N91 was working ok for a week but a I think a bug has surfaced. When I add more music to the phone it transfers as normal and shows up on the phones hard drive, but when I 'Refresh Music Library' it alternately either does nothing or starts to refresh with the animated screen but stays at '0 songs added' indefinitely. I have done a full format of the HD and added my music again but am still having the same problem... Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Rick

What are using to transfer songs to the phone?

One thing you can try is to remove the songs you added and try again with different songs. It may be that one of the songs you have added is causing problems (e.g. wrong file format, corrupted file etc). A quick way to ascertain this is to add one song at a time intially.

Thaks for your time Rafe.

I am connecting with nokia pc suite and then using explorer to copy files over. The files seem to copy no problem when I add one album at a time and update the list one at a time. Still, it seems as though not all songs will show up in the music library. If I add a folder with 20 songs maybe 17 songs might get added to the library. Any ideas?

Thanks

I would assume (don't know though) that there is something in those songs that the phone does not like. Can you see any commanlisties - e.g. file name - is there a strange or unusual character in it?

You might try using Windows Media Player in Media Sync mode and see if you do any better with that?

I had the same problem with mine,
and its nothing to do with the upload,
if you check via the media player, your newley uploaded tracks are actually on your hard drive, they just cant be seen by the library for some reason.

unfortunatley, mine couldn't be fixed, after couple of weeks, Nokia just sent me a new one, with updated firmware. which seems to have the same bugs, i.e. if you change track details the phone will eventually crash and auto clear out the library, and you'll need to refresh again.

So to get around the problem I've created loads of playlists by artist/genre etc and have not had a crash for a couple of weeks or so. Fingers crossed

agreed but this is not the issue in question,
in fact if you do upload a protected file, the library will recognise it, but when you try to play it says it is corrupt.

same as here. i got the same problem from my 3250. i think its all cause by the software. i did the same as Taipan. i download a song from PC to my 3250 by PC suite softwaree. then i connect my PC again after few hrs. i use window file manager to arrange my song file between the phone and microSD. after i done, the problem occured. the folder in microSD which is "Digital sounds" have a "?" icon front of the name and after not be able to read the song file from this folder anymore. i tried all the way to fix it but still the same that cant be able to read the song in music player, as well cant chose those song be a ring tone neither. however, those song file r surely still exist in the folder in the micoSD. Please help....how could i recover it as normal b4? thx a lot
