N80 Slider prob

i got an N80 a week ago from Voda UK and noticed the slider was very loose, ie, wouldn't lock properly at the bottom and basically caused the keylock to turn off and make a few unwanted calls by itself. another side effect of the loose slide is that when the N80 rings and i pull it from the leather case, it sometimes cancels the call.

ok, so i rang Voda and today got a replacement. not much of a replacement as it was a re-conditioned N80, complete with a far slider worse than my first one and a few dents on the back cover. oh yeah, when it vibrates, the chassis rattles really bad.

so am now awaiting delivery of another N80 on Monday morning. if its not a new one, i'll simply cancel my contract.

Q: are the build quality of all N80's as bad or am i just unlucky?
also, even with the phone lock and keypad lock on, it STILL cancels calls at the slightest movement of the slide when i remove it from my case! any way around this? have i missed an option somewhere?

thanks!

The build quality and slide function of my N80 is very very good, I never have a problem with calls being cancelled

Was it Vodafone themselves who sent you the shoddy reconditioned handset or one of the many internet resellers? e.g. CPW, E2SAVE, Crap4U.com ???

If your 3rd phone isn't brand new and perfect, report them to Trading Standards as well as cancelling the contract!

Keep us posted.

Cheers,
Dez

was voda themselves. was supposed to receive my new n80 today, voda decided to send it to my work address which i specifically told them not to do.

so have to wait to tomorrow.

I think we should start logging which models of the N80 are the bad ones...

I myself have had about 6 N80s now in the last 2 months... Each have had problems, some different/worse than others...

Look under your battery, where does it say it was made? And does it say N80-1 or N80-2??

Most of mine have been Made in Finland - N80-1. Ranging from the earliest firmware 3.0614.0.1 to 3.0618.0.2.

I have had slight slider issues with 2, nothing major though.

good Idea Gaz, I just started a new thread, maybe a good idea to check serial number on battery also incase there was a bad batch

i received my 3rd from Voda this morning, a brand new model. now a happy bunny.

says on the box, "made in Finland", with v 3.0617.0.6 firmware
