I would absolutely agree to turn off guest postings. Its no effort to register, and such postings can ruin a forum - which would be a pity in this case ... 😊

true, but if I wanted to slag someone off then I would create another account.

I think it is a shame that it has come to this because I agree with others that I think the Guest's posts are a large part of what makes this community so good.

It a shame that a few people have to spoil it for everyone else. 😞

I think there's a strong enough community here to allow guest posting - I've noticed that if someone posts something derogatory as a guest, they're soon put in their place by the forum users in general.

I agree. I dont mind guest posts, and its so few that are using it to do harm.
And that is why we have Mods for. 😃

It's a good point - I know I had 'a look around' first before deciding to register - guest postings are a good idea...

Guest do actually cover a large % of posts in the forum, looking at the stats this month 11% of posts have been from guests, that may not seem a lot but when you consider how many users we have and how many posts per month we get that is lots of posts.

I thought I'd mention the fact that I posted 13% of posts this month, so think of it as another me! (Could you live without that) 😃

BTW: I'm 3rd in the posts per month, the other people know who they are 😊

Yeah, hell I'm sure the guest thing wasn't enabled when I started here cos I don't remember any guest posts. I'm personally against guests, don't trust em, and think everyone should have some kind of identity.

I'm monitoring this thread for reactions, but for the time being Guest posts stays. This is under constant review though.

I think the point about getting to know the place is a good one. Also the forum regulars do keep an eye of things as do the moderators and for the hassle we do get I think its worth staying with it.

LOL I was registered before I even came to the forums. Rafe came to visit me on my site, we had a chat and agreed that the forum on my site was crap and we should host the 9210 Multimedia forum on his site, where he kindly setup my ID for me before I got there 😃

Gah! Please dont scare me. Time goes by so quickly... That was back in the days when i could actually read all the forums posts in all forums. <sigh> I'm going all nostalgic like SwitchBlade 😃

My opinion is that guest posts should stay,like Jizzo said,they are a very large part of the community,and if anyone wanted to slag anyone else,he could do it in lots of ways,ip control is not the preferred method by me (Dynamic ips,proxies etc etc).I think that we should relay on the good nature of Symbian community members.

Guest accounts should stay, thats what makes this community so great! If a guest spends a day in this site he will register anyways, thats what they all do!

I think that people gradually grow up 😃

And that if a guest slags you today, you never know he migh be a valuable part of the community a week later.

They should stay, because you can keep track of them, the rising number of trusty moderaters can do the job of keeping this site under complete control.

And, the companies that (quite frequently) visit us dont always have time to
register so we would be losing those too, and _that_ is a really bad thing.

So guest is not so bad compared to that we lose those :-?

What's really cool is that we get original feed back from the companies themselves! pretty cool that they read our thoughts and what we want for the next app and POOF! Like magic, it's on the software directory 😃

That's another reason why warez is strictly not allowed, the company would get heart broken seeing it's latest piece of software cracked!

That said if you spot it cracked somewhere, you should tell the company/geeza as they'll probably appreciate knowing it's been done and they can try a different method.
