Dear Mr,

We would like to thank you for your message to TomTom Customer Support

Your phone is currently not supported with regard to phone functions of models from the TomTom GO series.

It could very well be that a phone that is currently not being supported will be supported later on since the offer of mobile phones frequently changes. You can view the current compatibility list by using the link below.

When a phone is not supported it may mean that it has emerged after a test period that this phone is unsuitable for use with our software. In view of the fast developments in the phone world it could very well be that a version for your phone has not yet been brought out but that it will be offered in the future. We recommend always installing the latest update for your device. You can download the update by using the link below:

Tip: In certain cases it is possible to set up a connection with the phone. We cannot, however, guarantee that this will be free of problems. You can select the phone type in one of the last windows. Select a phone of the same make in this case. You can in this way sometimes make use of the phone options.

We do not have any date on when or if the phone will be compatible, but there is a software release coming soon.

Please do not hesitate in requesting further information if matters are still unclear.

Kind regards,

TomTom Customer Support Team

That isn't about TomTom Mobile 5, thats about using your phone with a standalone TomTom GPS System for handsfree and data features.

I find TomTom's naming system very confusing, but I think L11 is right.

From what I have read tho, the only thing that needs to occur for a program to work with S60 v3 is for a recompile with the latest SDK. Why programmers arn't jumping on board is probably down to the lack of knowledge about the updated OS.

Then what you've read was (unfortunately) complete bullshit. If that was the case, then we'd already have thousands of applications for S60 v3. S60 v3 does bring quite a lot of changes including a modified API, the introduction of capabilities and mandatory signing. Depending on what the application does and more improtantly how it's been written, porting to S60 v3 can be relatively easy or require significant redevelopment. On top of that, application must now support a whole range of different screen resolutions and orientations while before all the devices had a portait mode 208x176 screen (except for the N90 but that didn't matter that much for the developers point of view).

I seriously doubt that a company such as Tom-Tom is not aware that a new Symbian OS has been released. Why it takes so long for them to release an updated version, i don't quite know though. They might have other priorities, be waiting to have a new major version ready before jumping to S60 v3 or they may have to rewrite most of the application to make it compatible for S60 v3 for some reason.
