25 replies · 13,331 views · Started 10 July 2006

If you go to tools> get settings > email, you can set up your email and it will appear in the messaging menu, a list of email providers comes up but there is not a hotmail one, you can go on other and do it your self, that is what i tried but i cant get it working, maybe the settings are wrong. Anyone managed to do it?

Cheers

Apparantly it cant be done on the N80, do a serch in this forum and I think you will find more detailed explanation, it has been covered before

I set up mu gmail account but it wont download the emails, it connects fine but no emails getting through.

Have you logged into your Gmail account via the web and enabled POP in the account settings?

Ok I think i have enabled it, i went to fowarding and POP and selected enable pop for all mail. Stil im just getting time-out, did i do it correct and have you done it? thanks

I've been using GMail via various phones for a while now without issue. A couple of pointers though:
1. if you've got a lot of email already in the account I'd set POP enabled from now, (not for all mail otherwise you'll have loads coming through - which may be the cause of the time out).
2. Send a single test mail to your GMail account from another account, then log in to the web interface and check that it's arrived in your GMail account.
3. Once 2's done, then try connecting via your phone. Also check that you can send out correctly via the N80.

Just trying again now, its still trying to connect with the mail box, what should i do to ensure my phone is sending out correctly? THanks

ok i tried sending an email, but its just not connecting! Could it be the access point i'am using? I use O2 GPRS

For Gmail your settings should correspond to the following:

Incoming mail:
username: your email address
password: your password
server: pop.gmail.com
Access Point: always ask
type: POP3
Security:SSL/TLS
Port: Default Port
APOP Secure Login: Off

Outgoing mail:
username: your email address
password: your password
server: smtp:gmail.com
Access Point: always ask
type: SMTP
Security:SSL/TLS
Port: Default Port

This should work over O2's network / any access point. It does for me.

HTH

Should username be without the @gmail.com, because the incoming mail does not ask for email address, and outgoing asks for bothe email address and username.

I've got the full email address in both - if memory serves you can login on the web page using either.

Note that if your address is @google.com you may need to adjust settings accordingly.

I've managed to get hotmail working on the N80. First i got nokia to send me the settings for incoming email from Nokias settings page on their website.

I then mirrored those settings onto the outbound mailserver settings.. this was working perfectly until yesterday, when i cant send outbound messages anymore!! 😞

I dont know why, I can wake up in the morning, grab the phone, connect to hotmail through my WiFi connection and it updates me with the new messages i have on hotmail, but now i cannot reply through the phone anymore. I think Hotmail have changed the outbound mail server, it used to me pop3.mail.hotmail.com, same as the inbound (which still works) hope this helps you all.

Sure? Because hotmail have a limitation that only is accessed by MS mail programs, like Outlook and Outlook Express. In PC universe, the only other program that I know tha "deceptive" Hotmail, is Incredimail.

ashraf78 - I have a similar thread (regarding Hotmail) going on the N70 forum.

I tried getting the 'advanced settings' SMS from the Nokia website (offered Hotmail for my operator), saved, entered supplied PIN, etc. but then found nothing! Where on your phone did you find your settings (mine is S60 series 2 so may be bit different)

... or could you post your Hotmail settings?

P.S. - I currently use Hotmail Plus with Outlook ('normal' Hotmail won't work) and e-mailed Hotmail support - they say it is not possible with the mobile and to use a browser.

It IS possible to check hotmail on your N80 though sadly you can't do it directly. I've been checking my e-mails on my 6680 and now on my N80 using onemail.togo http://www.btx-eznet.com/onemail/

This gives you POP3 access to your hotmail account and you can then check your emails on anything that can access POP3 email. This does only give you access to read emails however, you can't send emails from your hotmail account though there are several companies out thee offering SMTP services that will allow you to send emails that apppear to come from your hotmail account. You have to pay an annual fee but I find it's worth it for convienence of being able to check my emails using the email client rather than having to going through webpages.

well, there must b a way since ive done the configuration on my old p910i and i had no problem with it, ill look for the settings and post em back cheers

Note that if you go through a 3rd party server to get to Hotmail, you are then giving the 3rd party your Hotmail/Passport username and password. So, if the owners of the 3rd party system wishes (or has people with questionable morality), they can see and use them.

My first post 😊 !!

I downloaded the settings from nokia and it worked a treat :icon14: .

I had to wait a while for all 200+ emails to download but you can chage this in the settings, i.e. set to headers only.

When i downloaded the settings it setup the outgoing server to orange, I tried changing this to mail.pop3hot.com but not sure it worked, will update if it works.

Thanks

Antos

mail.pop3hot.com is just a 15 day trial service form here http://www.izymail.com, it does seem to be very good however, better than the redirect service i was using before! And you can send as well as receive emails

If you have an always on PC you might like to try this - http://www.e-eeasy.com/getmail.aspx
It forwards unread mail from your Hotmail account to another account with POP3 or IMAP connectivity. I created a new mail box for mine and just have everything forwarded there also I think the Mailbox address option in the menus is really just the reply to address, I don't think it has any other bearing on the account so you should be able to change this to your Hotmail address and have all replies go to that main Inbox.

Hi, i downloaded the settings for my Nokia N80 for my demon mail settings. When I try to retireve the mail it simply says 'TIMED OUT'.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I'm pretty sure Hotmail does not provide POP access unless you pay for it, not even for Outlook or Outlook Express. On a PC you can use 3rd party apps like Hotmail Popper or MrPostman to intercept Hotmail and forward to any POP program like Outlook. Maybe they can develop this sort of software for Symbian. Or a program that would allow Outlook to sync with the phone over the net.

So far the only way I have been able to do it is through the browser, but maybe an alternative will appear one day

It does work, it uses IMAP instead of POP3, I use it to pickup my Hotmail through the Mail app in OSX
