Hi,
I've managed to set up my wireless broadband connection as an access point on my phone and can connect to the Internet through the phone no problem.
However, when I try to connect to my email or use eMSN the access point isn't shown. I get the option to search for the WLAN, it finds my wireless connection but I then have to enter the WEP to connect, which as you can imagine is very tedious!
Any ideas why the access point isn't shown when trying to use email or eMSN???
Thanks 😊
Can you see your access point under Tools - Settings - Connection - Access Points?
If so, is your eMSN and email setup to always ask for the access point to use?
Yes the Access Point has been correctly setup and I can see it under Tools - Settings - Connection - Access Points
It just doesn't appear as an option in email or eMSN.
My access point in email settings is set to "always ask" as when I'm away from home I will need to use GPRS. If I choose the "user defined" option I can see the access point but I don't want to have to go in to the incoming and outgoing email settings everytime I want to connect. Although I appreciate this would be alot easier than typing in the WEP everytime it still isn't ideal.
Should I be able to see the Access Point if the setting is on "always ask"?
If set to "Always ask" then when you hit the "Connect" option in email you should get a brief "Searching for WLAN" before a list of available points (including your Network Provider's GPRS etc) comes up.
It will only bring up visible or pre-configured WLANs that it can currently see at this point - I have multiple AP's setup on my N80 as I administer a lot of (home) networks but only those within current range are shown. I have occasionally seen mine fail to detect a configured WLAN, but retrying usually picks it up without issues.
If memory serves when I first setup my home network I had to restart the phone to get it functioning correctly (this may be my memory getting confused with my old Windows Mobile 5 phone).
HTH
It will search for a WLAN but like a say if I then want to connect to my wireless broadband I have to enter my WEP every time, which is not ideal.
I definately have the access point set up so why don't I get the option to connect through that when the settings are set to "always ask"?
If I set it to "User Defined" it's not a problem, I can select the Access Point I have set up for the wireless connection but then when I'm out of range of the wireless network I'd have to go back into the email settings to change back to GPRS.
This can't be right surely?
