I'm having an issue with not being able to send text messages with T-Mobile USA. I can receive them fine though.
In Messaging | Settings | Text Message | Message centres | ...
Msg. centre name : Message centre
Msg. centre number: +12063130004
I confirmed the message centre number with the T-Mobile site.
I have the other settings as follows:
Message centres
Msg. centre in use: Message centre
Character encoding: Full support
Receive report: No
Message validity: 24 hours
Message sent as: Text
Preferred conn.: GSM/UMTS (tried Packet Data too that didn't work)
Receive report: No
Any thoughts? I love this E61. I've got everything working except text messaging (including Bluetooth wireless modem!!).
Can you send text messages on your E61 with someone else's SIM card? (Not as a permanent solution of course, but just to see if it works at all.)
Well, interesting exercise.
If I put my SIM into a buddy's SE T610 I can send text messages. If I put his SIM into my E61 he can send text messages.
However, I still can't send text messages from my SIM in my E61.
Think this is a bad SIM chip or somehow T-Mobile needs to change some network registration settings? At least I know my E61 settings are correct.

Just out of interest, what network is your friend on? If he's on T-mobile too then you've almost certainly just got a bad SIM card.
Whatever the case, I guess the next step would be to ask T-mobile for a replacement SIM card (I assume you can get one free?) and see if that works. If it does, you know it was a bad SIM chip, if it doesn't then it's probably some kind of compatibility issue possibly at T-mobile's end.
My friend (actually co-worker) is also on T-Mobile. Its a corporate account.
Two more co-workers just bought E61s last night and put their SIMs in. They can text each other, but mine still doesn't work.
So, I'll be stopping by a T-Mobile store today to see if I can get a replacement SIM.
Thanks!
Well, replaced the SIM at the T-Mobile store. The rep there pushed back a bit, but eventually gave in. The new SIM works great. Problem solved.
Thanks for your assistance!!

Hey, no problem. 😊 I'm glad it was something so easily fixed.
ok so i had the exact same problem as above..the one thing is MAKE SURE that the + sign is in there as well. i had just the number in there and it wouldnt send the texts only recieve them.
so before getting a new sim card...check and make sure you have the + sign.
other than that i love the phone.. =)
I have exactly the same problems with my E90 I bought in India - cannot send SMS messages - receipt is fine - it works fine with AT&T network and also the same T-Mobile SIM has been working with the Nokia 9500 and also T-Mobile supplied Samsung t809.
This is the first place I have seen a resolution - It looks like a change of SIM card may help - mine is from 2001 (surprise! - there are loyal customers in US - though T-Mobile hardly gives a d*mn and refused to help me - "unsupported device"😉.
Thanks guys. I will call T-Mobile and give it a shot.
Regards

Me too. Just got an E61 (yeah, I'm behind times) and with my VoiceStream SIM from 1997 I can receive SMS, receive and send MMS, but not send SMS. I verified that the message center number is +12063130004, but no dice. The name for the message center says "VStream." I opened a ticket saying that my SIM is flaky (which it has been, the phone stops seeing it or claims "Invalid SIM" every week or two), we'll see what happens!
EDIT: I had my SIM swapped, and SMS works just peachy with the new SIM.
hi, i wrestled with the send text message issue on my n82 tmobile pre paid sim phone for a bit. The prior posts are correct that you must have a + sign in the tmobile message number. However you must also use a full 11 digit number with a + sign for the number you are sending the text to as well, at least it worked for me!
