Has anyone succeeded in getting an N80 to work as a bluetooth GPRS/3G modem for a Linux laptop or PC (running Ubuntu 6.06)? There is no problem making the bluetooth connection, it's the dialling bit which is failing.
I have a trusty "chat" script for Orange UK connections which has worked over several years for GPRS/3G data on a 6310i, a 6600 and a 6630, but it fails on a new N80.
"" "\d"
"" "ATE1"
"" ATZ
OK ATDT*99***1#
ABORT "NO CARRIER"
ABORT BUSY
ABORT "NO DIALTONE"
ABORT WAITING
TIMEOUT 60
CONNECT '\d\c'
- the connection is dying before the first "OK" is returned.
The machines in question still connect quite happily using the 6630 and the
same scripts. Oddly, the N80 _will_ function as a bluetooth modem for an Apple laptop using their "Nokia IR " script, which also worked with the older phones.
I don't know enough about the Apple modem scripting to decipher what AT
are being issued to make things work in that case.
Googling gives variations on the commands above, none of which work with the N80 😊
Well, a few minutes before i wrote an "how-to" to connect the N80 via BT-Modem for UMTS under MAC OSX. (http://www.fr-j.com/blogs/index.php/2006/08/28/p307) (use "Translate" if you want to read in english) - so i can understand your problems as far 😊
At http://www.taniwha.org.uk you can found the modem scripts i used to set up the N80 under OSX - I know, it's not exactly your problem, but maybe it would be helpful to send you this link. Check out the "Nokia 3G" Scripts! Is there anything for you - to understand how apple-scripts work? Hope so!

I am just a newbie to Mac OS, I follow the same link as Janice did, but still failed to connect. The line just got discounted during user authentications. I have no problem running on PC, sure the account/SIM should be workable. I downloaded the file from taniwha.org.uk, which obtain 2 file ("Nokia 3G CID1" & "Nokia 3G CID2"😉 file. I have tried both in MAC OS, still not work. I am wondering would that be the way I copy the file from PC to MAC cause some problem, or I just don't know how to do it. Is it possible if you could share with me again, how it works on your machines?

There are a few options you have missed :
at+cgdcont=1,"IP","internet"
and probably
noipdefault
usepeerdns
defaultroute
local
connect-delay 6000
default-asyncmap
Hope it helps.

Felix.

(Sorry for cross-comment: I also posted this on h**p://blog.bittube.com/2007/04/24/using-the-n95-as-a-bluetooth-modem-on-os-x/)
I have an N95 that I wanted to use with my Powerbook running 10.4.9. I am on Dutch T-Mobile GPRS. At first this HOWTO didnt work for me. It made contact with my phone vai PPP but never came past authenticating user.
Kept trying though with alternative settings. This is what finally did it for me:
* Under tab Bluetooth Modem I used the modem script Nokia 3G CID1, which I installed as explained here.
* Under tab PPP the only thing I filled in are: service provider tmobile and telephone number internet. So no *99#, no gprs.t-mobile.nl, or anything. Just internet.
* Dunno whether this is really needed, but I also turned off enable error correction & wait for dial tone. And turned off send PPP echo packets & Use TCP header compression under PPP Options under tab PPP
Downloading speed at > 100KB is pretty neat (considering a 9,50/month flatfee):
