E61 and VOIP over WIFI, using voiptalk.rrg

Has anyone been able to use the E61 with VOIP over WIFI, using voiptalk.org, or any voip service provider at all for that matter? I set up an account with voiptalk.org, programmed the E61 correctly, tested the service and access ok with a call to #902, their info number, but still cannot make internet calls. How do you input international numbers? Starting with +? Or just the country code? Simply cannot make it to work. Any useful feedback, anyone, please?

Thanks,
Jose

I have been using VoIPtalk with my E60 and it works great but there is a specific format that you need to use when dialing phone numbers. I live in the US and dial 00+Country Code+City Code+phone number. Try this and let me know how it works for you.

It works as you say, having 00 in front of the country code. What puzzled me was that it does not work with having + (the international access code) in front of the country code...

Well... now I just have to duplicate the main numbers that I use... in a different format. But it works and the audio quality is quite good.

Thanks!
Jose

Being UK based its set up to emaulte dialing from a UK phone. Hence 00.. if you dial a UK number you dont need the international code.

Yeap... I was hoping that the 00 and the + would be interchangeable... as they should be to make your address book (in the phone) geography-independent, but that is not the case with voiptalk. Not a major problem, though.

Thanks again,
Jose

Hi Jose,

Would you mind to post your settings? I've been struggling to make any SIP or VoIP to work! Tried many options VoIPStunt, easyPABX, Fonosip...you name it!

Appreciate your help.

Thanks in advance!

I just configured VoipTalk - after being very disappointed with the quality of Project Gizmo.

We made a call from Denmark to a mobile in a remote area of the Philippines, and the quality was just like a local call (with VOIP) You could hear a slight degradation of the sound, but the connection was loud and clear.

I will test VoipTalk using UMTS rather than my home WLAN connection next.

Regards
Michael

Anyone using a UK E61 been able to get SIP working? Without any (apparently non-existent) ROM upgrade? Thanks!

Can we use this settings for other VOIP apps aswell? Like VoipCheap.com
What do I have to change or enter then in these settings above
Where can I see the settings from the program thats needs to be entered in the E61?

I saw on the site from Skype they don't support SIP so can't we use skype then?

UPDATE:

I found this on the voiptalk.org site for the E61 with screenshots etc

https://www.voiptalk.org/products/nokia-e61-voip-setup.html?sess=37069398b4728bb1fbd24c94342857eb

Liquid LiOn, that doesn't work for me on my non-upgraded E61. I think I read somewhere that the new (yet invisible) upgrade makes SIP workable, although having said that; others seem to have it working. It depends on your E61 version and ROM I guess. Driving me nuts 😞

In the meantime I updated my E61 to the newest firmware (check signature)
I registered at voiptalk.org as well and entered all the date. It should work now I guess because it says registered, but every time I call that 902 number is says its busy

I've used VoIPtalk and Sipgate with both firmware version on my E60 without any problems. You might try connecting through a different router. This seems to be a reason why some people can connect and other's cannot when using the same settings. Also, you should try Truphone (www.truphone.com). It's VoIP designed to be used on E-series phones, they have numbers in both the UK and the US and it's free until the end of the year. I've used Truphone exclusively for almost 2 months. You don't even need to worry about settings because they send you the settings in a text message. You can be calling within a few minutes.

Thx for the link (but please edit it because you placed the ) sign also in the URL)

I live in belgium but I will try it out

Truphone works great for me:

www.truphone.com

mind the setup bug. Make sure the services browser is not running when saving settings. Use app/task switcher key to get rid of it before saving SIP settings.

Only works with v2 firmware though.

I have learnt by bitter experience. Only buy generic Smartphones (unless its a HTC/WM device and xda-developers have a unlock hack for you).

challenger mobile looks good in theory but it is only free and useable I think just now to SIP phones elsewhere. One has to await them adding other standard phones, as it implies they will do on their web site
