Initially when I bought the E61, the keyboard backlight comes on as soon as I use the phone in a darkened enviroment. It does not do that anymore. Do not know whether it is a software or hardware issue. Does anyone have a solution to this?
E61 - Backlight problems
Hi, I have the same problem and I think it's a hardware problem. When I press(hard, but not that hard) the lower end of the screen, just above the joystick the keyboard lights go out. If I shake the phone or press there again, the lights come on. I noticed this behaviour within the first few days since i bought it. I haven't done anything about it yet though, summer vacation and all, but I'm going to...
Could be hardware - a damaged light sensor!
HI,
me from the UAE. I had the same problem with the keypad backlight. However, I took my handset to the Nokia Support Center here in the UAE and they got it working and returned my handset within 1 day.
The problem as per them was "the UI module connection had to be adjusted" (Whatever that means!).
But needless to say, the handset is working fine now (touch wood!) and the backlight works perfectly!
Hope this helps...
I have been trying to solve this for more than a year and it was a permanent headache as I hate to see unworking features likes this one. In the mean-time I got a Nokia E71 and Blackberry Curve 8900. All are working fine but my preferred goes to (in order):
E71
E61
Blackberry (only for the push mail feature).
Well, going back to the problem, I decided to completely unmount my E61. This was relatively easy as it was done by my 17 years old boy. I used a soft/medium brush to wipe all dust and dirt especially both sides of the circuit plate at the base where you have the phone connector. For some reason, I think, these little particles made some sort of short circuit.
After mounting back the whole thing... SURPRISE... the light on the keypad was back to normal.
That was not a software problem and resetting was useless in my case as suggested on the many posts I visited in the past months.
Hope this will help. If yes, it will be highly rewarding to get a post for personal satisfaction.
