Whenever I try connect using Opera my N80 always tries to find available WLAN connections and does not allow me to stipulate the use of my GPRS connections. Can anyone advise what I need to change in order to get this to work? I have the same problem with several Java apps that wish to use a data connection.
Nokia's own net browser connects using GPRS without any problem.
Well go options > conections > and select always ask
anyways why to use a crappy browser if u have Nokia Browser???
I've already tried setting the connection settings to always ask but this has made no difference. Also I prefer the Opera browser and I have several Java apps that require a data connection too.
weird, it works for me, wut firmware do u have?? dial *#0000# and post it here
v3.0617.0.6
Which menu are you accessing those options from? Opera Mini does not have a configuration menu, neither do the java apps I am using. I'd have thought they'd all be able to see the other access points which are defined. I do not use WLAN at all.
lmao sorry, i tought u had opera full version not opera mini, well this is weird, it always asks me wich access point i want, check on tools > settings > conection > acces ponts and watch if u have ur GPRS AP configured
My access points screen lists the 3 default options
o2 mms
o2 mobile web
o2 wap gprs
I cannot understand why I do not get to choose one of these when using 3rd party apps. They search for access points but then only offer me the ability to search for a WLAN connection.
mmm, dial *#0000# and post all the things that the display shows, i got a feeling about it

Nokia N80 (33.01)
maybe thats why i got a generic firmware mine says
v 3.0617.0.6
03-05-2006
RM-92
Nokia N80(08)
maybe that could be the problem, something i discovered is that i cant select CSD or HSCSD connectios on my phone and when i had the older firmware i was able to do it, maybe ur service provider restricted the option of selecting any GPRS connection to 3rd party apps
yes, some netorks actually remove some options so that you will only use their sevices, a biy naughty really, I would always flash to a generic firmware to get the most out of the phone, I mean how many people actually use the network provided apps ??
and all other settings you can make yourself with the generic firmware.
and just a note that I read about opera and he nokia browser,
The Nokia browser as I beleive (unless there is some hidden function) doesn't seem to store site passwords, whereas opera can do this, maybe rafe can clear this up as I have seen him post about this before.
I find it quite annoying having to type my passwords in all the time.
My problem at the moment is that I cannot use the operators own GPRS service 😞 The phone will only look for a WLAN access point and nothing else with any of the 3rd parts apps, very annoying.
well actually the nokia browser does store passwords while its opened, but when u close the app u clear all the cookies and cache.

Sorry DX thats what I meant to say, as I close the browser after I check my emails, next time I open I have to put all the passwords back in.
The only reason I can see why they dont allow you to store passwords indeffinately is for security as the N80 being a mobile device is more likely to be lost or stolen and therefore easier for others to gain access to pasword protected websites, but surely that should be up to the user to decide.
Of course the other reason is that they just forgot to put it in .. 😊
hope ther remedy this with a firmware update
hahaha, i guess that was the second option lol, i dont know, im pretty happy with handy safe i can store all my data there with no worring about it, it would b great that u could put a password to folders or when u wanna exec a program it asks u for da password.
So Sneeks are you just trying to browse or are you using something like profimail to access the web? what options did the phone come with connection wise?

try "EDITING" the gprs settings in settings/conection settings, select edit and just change the name to sumthin else i.e. o2 internet and then save them, then c if it finds them in the 3rd party app!
well i guess that wont help so much, because his connection is dislabled from Firmware and its something we cant change
