I had a 9500. What do you call "Location Info"?
If you mean 'Cell Info Display' on the outside of the phone, it's (on outside menu) in Menu/ Settings/ Telephone Settings/ Cell info display and just switch to 'On'.

I see... cell network location! It was that possibility. Now, if You format and it disappeared, is not normal. Now, Im unable to remenber as 9500 work, because is not with me anymore. Maybe a new format!
It does lose indeed lose that setting (along with all others) when you Format, I assure you - having done it lots of times! Also you need to remember to reset the camera to 'High' as it defaults after a Format to 'Normal'.

The ROM things must be there, somewhere. But the behavior of 9500 in my experience, is so erratic and unstable, that I was happy to get rid of it! Is that kind of things, that brooke our trust in a journey companion.
Not sure what you're saying in that post at all, but do pick up on disatisfaction with the 9500 - I've found my E61 to be less reliable than 9500 ever was with 'memory out' messages (particularly when podcasting) and icons jumping back out of my created folders to the root menu page for no reason to mention but 2. The only thing the 9500 has ever done which has annoyed (and still does) is that sometimes it won't 'drop' the WiFi connection (even when Ctr-U from inside Web is executed) and the 'W' stays on the screens until a reset is done. Other times it works fine, so I don't know what that's about.

Clarify:
1 - When You make a format, the phone returns to the original stage. The original stage, is in ROM. So, yours original problem shoul be resolve that way.
2 - My experience, with the 9500, was bad. And I talk about that bad experience.
3 - Seems that you have also a bad experience with E61! Well, another one...
1. But I didn't have an original problem - I was advising someone else about a setting which must be attended to after a Format is done. If you have now moved on and are referring to my 'W' hanging on problem, that doesn't seem to go away after a Format - I've tried.
2. That's a shame as Series 80 has so much more to offer than all the others.
3. Tchh! Shame I'm not alone - I think S60 3rd Edit. does have potential but it will never be up to the level of control Series 80 has. Even if a new Communicator is released it seems like the wise money is on it being run with S60 and not Series 80 so it may have the form factor but if it has that level of control, it won't be for me. I think I'll buy up a few 9500's now! Mind you, I said that about the Psion 5mx and never did. The world moves on!

hello all, thanks for those replies. Yes my Cell Info/ location info is not working😞 . So do I have to format again and see? I also don't like the dodgy network reception of 9300. Many times my calls are diverted to my voice mail. Thanx for all the replies
Where are you? Which network?
This Cell Info function is a pretty basic one driven on the outside of the phone and should be working, no question. You could try a Format (after backing up, obviously - though you might also back up whatever it is that is stopping it working - so try it before restoring).

Dear Tim, I'm in Bombay, India. My Network is Airtel. As correctly pointed out, the cell info thing is basic, but even when I switch it on now, no location visible. I formatted the ph because individual ringtones wouldn't play in the ph.- Thanks Sudipt
Hello Sudipt.
I don't know anything about your area or network unfortunately. Does the area code show up on another handset? If so, I would guess there's something wrong with the phone and you should return it - after all - what else might be wrong with it? But if it works after a Format, this is the test. It's also a bit worrying if Ringtones won't play (assuming they are support file types). I think I'd be concerned about this handset if it were me.
Sorry I can't be more help.

Dear Tim, Thanks for the info. Ok so I did format my 9300, and before restoring from mmc, did a cell info check. And now it works. Then did a restore and it now it won't work. So I guess I have to start from the original setting, there are some files ... which is tampering. but dunno which one??? Abt the network thing I've read the Nokia 9300 network reception is weak compared to the 9500. I compare it to my Nokia 7650, and it is certianly weaker, because both the phones are on the same network. My calls get diverted to my other phone. Thanks again
Glad we're getting there. Yes, you must now start adding the apps. one by one, each time checking to see if the Cell Info still works - then you'll be able to see which one stops it working. It would be interesting to find out - perhaps you could let us know here. It's highly unlikely to be a "file" - much more app. Regarding the signal strength, you're right - the 9300(i) is not as good as the 9500 - must be a different bit of hardware (in my experience). The best signal of recent times seemed to have been the N70 and E61 which are both fabulous.

Hello Tim,
Yeah Seems what u're telling is the logical thing to do, check after installing apps one by one. I'll keep you posted. bye for now😊
