Hello all,
Please educate me, I want to use/try Sprint USA EV-DO on the N80.
I've bought my unlocked N80 abroad with CDMA 2100, while in the USA I use Cingular & T-Mobile on GSM. But 3G is limited or not available at all, so I want to try Sprint EV-DO. However, Sprint does not use SIM card so is there a way I can use their service?
Also, in other countries (Korea, Japan, Russia, S. America, etc) do CDMA providers use SIM? So I can just go buy a prepaid CDMA SIM card and use it while in their country similar to GSM SIM.
Thanks,
Nicholas
I don't think it is even possible at all to use N80 to access Sprint EV-DO.
EV-DO is 3G standard based on CDMA standard; while N80 is based on UMTS/3GSM standard.
DOH....so I've misunderstood from N80 specifications when it list GSM 850/900/1800/1900 CDMA 2100. I thought that means I could also access the CDMA network of Sprint.
Operating Frequency and Data Transfer
Quadband EDGE/GSM 850/900/1800/1900 + WCDMA 1900 or 2100 MHz with simultaneous voice and packet data (PS max speed UL/DL= 384/384kbps, CS max speed 64kpbs)
EGPRS (Class B, Multislot class 11): Maximum download 236.8 kbps; upload 177.6 kbps
As u can see there its a little word but its so important "OR". WCDMA 1900 its N80-3 that its for America, and WCDMA 2100 its N80-1 that its for Europe middle east and asia, thats the big deal thats why u wont b able to do that, another fact it is WCDMA not CDMA or TDMA
cheers

Also the EVDO and WCDMA (GSM) use different specifications. They are both grounded in CDMA, but they are not interoperable.
