WIth class 1 bluetooth dongles claiming 100m range against class 2's 10m (obviously to be taken with a pinch of salt but clearly a higher range), is there any point in these with an N70?
Is the range actually limited by the phone itself (claimed range of 10m?) or would one get more out of a class 1?
In theory you will get longer range with class 1, but honestly there's not much point as most of the time you need to be next to your PC anyway!
Based in my experience, use in good conditions of on e phone is around 5 meters. More than this and the degradation of the signal starts.

Do walls and electronic appliances has an effect on bluetooth signal?
As most mobile phones are Class 2 Bluetooth devices (10m range), don't expect any wonders from getting a Class 1 (100m) Bluetooth dongle. After all, it won't do any good to receive a signal if your phone isn't powerul enough to transmit a reply.
As Bluetooth works in the same frequency as b/g wi-fi, you can expect similar object permeability. You can still connect through walls, but each obstable will reduce your signal strength. I'm able to connect at about 7-8 metres through 3 brick walls using my N70 and an MSI Class2 Bluetooth dongle.
Walls yes! Even more if are concrete walls. Electronic devices, also.
I ended up going for one of the latest Belkin Class 2 (10M) dongles - class 1 (100M) was little bit more but I considered pointless unless using with another class 1 device (e.g. another computer/class 1 dongle in the home) + potential security implications e.g. if not hidden, etc.
Range - works in same room and sometimes connects when in adjoining rooms (not reliable).
Word of warning though - went with the Belkin 'name brand' assuming better compatibility ... how wrong I was!!!! Apart from known issues with Nokia PCSuite (which sometimes needs to be restarted e.g. to continue automatic synchronisation), the dongle took several installs/deinstalls/cleans to get working properly with the correct drivers (with the help of advice on the Nokia support forum) as XP SP2 includes MS drivers and Belkin supplies Widcomm.
Now works fine but this combination is not likely to be plug-and-play!
With my previous phone (Nokia 6600) I played snake with a friend using bluetooth
he has a very long hallway in his appartementbuilding, I stood on one side, he on the other and we were able to still play Snakes perfectly. It was definatly longer then 10m!
Also I heard that you can buy a bluetooth antenna to enhance the signal strength. And that it will go till 1.5km then. Is that true?
