Software distribution!

This thread included a poll: Should be ban such software?

A thread in the Nokia 7650 forum kind of confused me! Are we going to allow software to be uploaded that was free for customers of a certain mobile operator? Like in the case of T-Mobile which was for german customers only! What should we do in this case?

T-Mobile paid for this software, and T-Mobile cutomers pay for this through their subscription to T-Mobile. If this is software available to download, then linking is probably justfied, but if the software is distributed by T-Mobile in a nother format (on CD maybe) then my answer would be we cannot be seen to redistribute it.

True, but not by direct link to file, but to site/page.

Otherwise I agree with Ewan on this one.

In the case of the T-Mobile Hantro Video Recorder, it was available to any customer regardless of which Network or Country you live in.

I registered on the German site with an English address and a Vodafone UK number.

They emailed me the application in about 5 minutes no questions asked.

If it's downloadable via a webpage wher you put details in and they email to you, then according to Rafe's guidelines, we can post the link, but not the software.

Given that this is going to happen more and more, I think we need to get this one right, and the linkto the download is the best IMO, and a good rule to stick to for later apps from mobile telcos.
