The actual functionality of BT is a bit clunky to say the least. The original PR of your PC recognising your 'phone is not exactly true.
I have a 7650 and a generic BT dongle. Is it possible?
TIA,
Ant Magic

how?
when u open up the bluetooth explorer u should be able to send/recieve files.
it connects automatically (at least it does on mine).

and it does this as soon as you walk into the room without having to fiddle with connections?
or not?
yes it does
i only have to fiddle with the connection for pc suite only

OK, let me ask you.
How do you configure the BT connection to recognise the device upon entry? Details please.
Thank you.
i think what is happening here is we are at cross purposes
the first dude i supsect means that he wants to initiate a bluetooth serial connection
the reply that it connects automatically is half true. when u walk in to the room into range of the bluetooth, it doesnt conenct
however, if u try to send something to the phone through the public folder it will connect to your phone automatically and send. In this case, this works because the pohone and pc are paired.
the first guy wants to walk into room and initiate a serial connection from the phone..instead of initiating the serial conenction from the pc.
i dont think this is possible with the bluetooth software on the phone. someone would need to write an app to do this
Why the obsession with Serial Connection?? I've seen it being mentioned too much, but how should it (serial connections) matter when we are able to send an receive files normally, without its help? Frankly, the only time anyone (atleast me) use that is only as a trigger on the rare instance that i have to connect to pcsuit (that ofcourse has increased with the pc net sharing ) and perhaps, to configure Bemused server.
But otherwise, it dont even have to fiddle the serial connection.
Coming to original question
Connecting directly from phone is possible without pc intervention!
Its as simple as has been mentioned erlier in the thread. File>option>send to BT. Is all
If u are not able to, for any reason:
Just make sure you have paired the devices.
In BT Configuration on PC:
Check security in General tab
Check the setting in accessibility. "Only Paired devices to connect" should give a fair degree of flexibility and security"
Check Information exchange tab.
Firewall??
A better discription of the problem/error/action would help a lot
Goodluck
why the obsession with serial connection?!?!?!?!?
the serial connection gives web access through your pcs net access. connect and u can wireless irc and surf the web

As you can see from my previous post, am aware of that. But we dont certainly need to establish a serial connection before very file transfer right ??
