Hey guys... great forum you have here!

I just picked up a Nokia N72 and am pretty impressed with the phone. However, there are a couple of issues I have questions about.

First, when I power off my cell and try to turn it back on, it gets stuck at the NOKIA screen and seems to loop. I hold the power button down and nothing seems to happen. I remove the battery AND the memory card. Power it back on and it loads OK (but it still takes a LOOONG time). Is this normal? Why doesn't my phone boot properly with a memory card inside?

Second, are there different types of memory cards (ie. different read/write speeds)? I have a 128MB Nokia one and a 1GB one from a 3rd party company. I preloaded my existing pictures from my previous cell (Sony Ericsson S710a) onto the 1GB memory card and when I go to the Gallery, the pictures take a decent amount of time to load.

Third, what types of software is "recommended" or a "must have" for the N72? I'm really interested in N70Torch (not a freeware right?). I currently have FExplorer & Symantec Mobile Security V4.0.

One last thing. If I have a program installed onto the memory card, will it slow down my cell when I run it? Should I install all programs onto the phone's internal memory?

I'm sure other questions will arise but these are the issues that have been bugging me. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance. :icon14:

MMC sacrifices read/write speeds for compatibility. I recommend installing small/commonly used apps on the internal phone memory (don't worry, it's discrete from system RAM) - really sped up my application load times.

The first two apps you should install on your N7x are TaskSpy and FExplorer. Looks like you already got the latter.

If you want scientific calculations, XCalc is the only calculator app I didn't uninstall after 5 minutes. The 'Calc' function is a bit klunky, but every other app out there is much worse, and some charge for the privilege.

If you have Bluetooth and a home broadband connection, go here for a neat trick.

Not sure if Opera Mobile for N70 will install on a N72, you could always try at http://www.opera.com/products/mobile/ .

http://www.getjar.com/software/ is a nice place to browse through for software. Contrary to its name, it *does* have native Symbian apps in addition to java.

Hope this helps,
V.

1. Long time is normal.

2. Cards - rsDvMMC - with very diferent read / write speeds.
Use the faster You can get.

3. Software - it depends of your nedd or you like most...

4. The progams, all to memory card and never to phone memory.

Wirelessly posted (Nokia E61: Mozilla/5.0 (SymbianOS/9.1; U; en-us) AppleWebKit/413 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/413)

If you have enough phone memory AND the application is a known, stable product I would install to phone, allowing you to swithc memory card with data without loosing the apps.

For potentially unstable apps and apps that dig very deep into the OS, use memory card, allowing you to reboot the phone if the app causes trouble.

Remember, that phone RAM is totally different from the memory used for apps.

Thank you very much for taking the time to help me out.

I just downloaded TaskSpy and XCalc.

As for the start up... it still seems to "loop" when my MMC is in the phone. Also, it shut off on its own today when I was pairing my new NOKIA headset. Strange... I did my normal process (removed battery and turned phone back on without MMC) and it came up OK. Is this OK?

Thanks again for your input. It's getting late so I'll post more tomorrow.

Yea... is OK! You have a rsDvMMC, right...
Because to work on a N72, must be like that.
If it works, it was... and is not necessary a format, only if it doesnt work.

thanks! One more question. It seems the n72 doesnt have a wallet feature? Well the nokia guys didnt do a smart thing, as imo the wallet was a useful feature.
