N80 Stupid question

Hi, just got my N80 and was wondering it has what looks like a small LED under the N80 on the front, what is it for?

It's a blue LED that flashes when the phone goes into sleep mode

It's also the light sensor for the background light for the screen / keyboard.

Can the led be turned off when in sleep mode though?
