2GB memory card slowing down my N80!!!

11 replies · 4,284 views · Started 28 July 2006

Hi

i recently received my Sandisk 2GB memory card and for the first day it worked great, but the next morning, the phone started getting noticably slower and slower until you could hardly do anything. With the card inserted, even opening the phone book takes about a minute do to. When I put the Nokia 128mb card in the phone, it works fine.

If the phone was slow with the 2GB card from the start I would have accepted that the card is eiter faulty or the the phone just can't handle the 2GB size very well, but it was perfecly fine at first and responded as if it had the 128mb card in.

Has anybody else had this problem?

Would it helped if I update my firmware? I currently have V 3.0614.0.3

Hello,

I also have the 2gb Sandisk (they sent it in error instead of the 1gb but thats a different story).

I've not experienced any slow down, used about 1.1gb of it so far.

I'm on the newer (V3.0617.0.06) so maybe its a problem in your software version?

i also use 2gig with no probs, try formating ur mem card, bak up ur contacts to pc or jot em down and format fone aswel with *#7370# and start again, this code delets everything uv put on fone mem but it shud solve ur prob! if this dnt help then maybe a SW update wud b next idea!

I have already started to download all the files from http://nokia.dogtoe.com/

is that the best site to go to for firmware updates? i'm a bit scared i might mess up and be stuck with a paperweight afterwards.

formatting and *#7370# seems to have done the job, but i'll keep you updated. i'll test it for a day or so.

where is the best place to get help regarding flashing?

to be honest, if you are somewhere near a nokia sercive centre, i wouldn't bother flashing it yourself. i wasted 2 hours failing to flash my phone. it took me less time to drive to town, wait an hour while they did it, then drive home again.
and it was free

i could say that my problems are about 90% sorted. i can now run files from the memory card and everything is very close to the way it was when i used the 128mb card.

the only thing is that when restarting the phone or connecting to my pc, the memory card seems to disconnect from the phone, so i have to take it out and put it back in again, but that doesnt happen every time.

so overall, i'd recommend the sandisc 2gb card.

and as for the nokia service centre flashing suggestion, i'll defenately do that some time.

thanks for all the great tips and help!!!

the prob with the fone not seeing the mem card is the fones fault, a firmware update will fix that pal!

Could be also a card problem. I solve that not with firmware upgrade but with card change.

If you have the older firmware you probably had the same problem I did. If you go through Nokia's links on your WAP browser you'll see the SMS Accelerator program. Download that, should fix your troubles.

i have the same problem i have a scan disk 1gb mem card the first thing that happens is it fails to see my music thats stored on the card then it starts to slow down to the point that i miss calls etc cuz the phone is that slow so i end up using the 128mb card for a hour or 2 then put in my 1 gb card and format it thus losing the data on the card but my phone works great then

any1 got any ideas on how to solve this issue
