Hi, I've had an Orange N70 since last Christmas and was a bit peeved with the side bar and general sluggishness of the phone compared with my mate's unbranded version.
I contacted them several times to be told that "the users prefer this and it's staying"
However, after my phone recently visited the underside of my car's front wheels (completely accidentally I might add), it was replaced with a shiny new one - but without the sidebar and an option to switch off the Orange Desktop and return to the standard Active Desktop.
The firmware is now V5.0616.2.0.3 and is MUCH better.
I don't know if this has been posted before but if not, I hope it cheers you up as much as it did me (sad bugger that I am!) 😊

Would you have any screen shots showing the new Orange firmware?
Does the new OS seem any faster than the old Orange firmware?
Looks like I might get my handset reflashed to the latest Orange firmware then 😉 A shame nobody who works for Orange Customer Services has a damn clue about this issue 😡 :icon13:

I don't have a screenshot (is there an easy way to do this?) but when set to 'off' the Orange bastardisation is removed completely (hurrah!).
It's a little quicker when you first try it but like anything, once you get used to it you can't remember how slow the old one was 😊
Incidentally, I just emailed the person who told me (last month) that I was stuck with the Orange sidebar and she didn't believe me when I said I'd got one with the option to remove it! Arses and elbows spring to mind 😊
I've just upgraded my N70's firmware and I must say that this latest version seems much speedier than Orange's previous versions and the option to switch off the Orange HomeScreen is a welcome bonus. Well done Orange!
