Wireless - phone just goes to wap

Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help as I'm out of ideas.

I got my N80 on Vodafone yesterday. Not formed much of an opinion of it yet, too soon and I can't get the wireless working. I've been searching for answers all morning but I'm running out of ideas.

What I've got:
N80 Firmware V3.0617.0.6
Linksys WAG54G with recent firmware (works fine with laptops)

Phone settings, as per instructions,
Tools, Settings, Connection, Access points:

Data bearer - Wireless LAN
WLAN netw. name - Searched for and found
Network status - Public
WLAN netw. mode - Infrastructure
WLAN security mode - Open network

I have turned off MAC filtering and WEP on my access point and turned on DHCP. Previously I tried with just the MAC filtering off and with a static IP entered on the phone.

The problem:
The phone shows the wlan icon on the top of the screen. I'm not sure if this should change when connected, but at the moment it's four hollow squares.

When I open the web browser it goes to the bookmarks screen showing Contract WAP at the top of the list and prompts that a connection to server is needed. It will then connect with that and not my wlan.

Have I missed something??

Thanks a lot for any ideas.

Somewhere in each application that requires a connection (email, Web, etc) there is an option to ask which connection type to use. Once this is set the application will prompt you on starting to select a known connection (GPRS, mobile web, known access points) or search for WLAN.
Sorry I can't give the exact option location at the moment but I'm in the middle of some major data transfers and my N80's offline 🙄

HTH

Oh and the WLAN icon showing all the time indicates that you have an access point within range. You can change the WLAN detection mode to save power and prevent display of this icon when within range of active access points..

Thanks a lot for that, it did help.

Web browser, Settings, Access point - Changed to Always ask.

I seem to remember it used to be one setting for all, which is what threw me.

Cheers 😊
