Fast / Smart Dialing

Any advice for fast /smart dialing software for the Symbian v3?

Just moved over from using a WM5 device and the dialing / contacts sifting system in that is just too good. I feel like I'm using a device from back in the stone age when this feature is missing.

The only one I know of is the Smart Dialer from moov software. Pity this one is not for the v3 phones.

Any pointers?

I mean features such as the fast sifting of contacts like in Windows Mobile 5.0 (WM5). Or like in the example I posted above, Smart Dialer by moov software duplicates this feature but not on v3.

To be more descriptive: When you dial a string of numbers for example 436 on the main screen, the contacts associated with those numbers immediately get listed in a call list. This can be contacts with 436 in their phone numbers somewhere, or contacts that are associated with the letter counterparts of those three numbers (T9 like)... such as contacts containing HEN, IFO, GEM, etc in their names

Is not the same. But on Nokia phones, You can associate to numbers 2 - 9 a number. Just press that number and it deals!

Speed dial is indeed revolutionary... for 1980 =)

The real purpose in this feature is to sift through thousands of contacts without wearing out your scolling joystick.

Nokia limitations:frown:

is that not the same as clicking on contacts and then typing the letters of the contact to bring up a list of the closest matches? Maybe I'm missing something here but I have over 500 contacts and I can usually get the contact I want by pressing about 3 buttons.

Palm was quicker again - you just started typing the contact name - first letter of the first name and then the first letter of the surname and blam - two presses and you were there.

Yes that's true but what our friend here is saying is that with WM5 you just start typing a number or name from the standby screen and don't have to open Contacts first. (This would necessitate a whole extra key press!) And it won't do it with numbers - only names.

However, what he isn't saying is that you have to get your stylus out first or grubby up your screen 😉

With the stylus is very handy and fast:tongue:

Not on WM5 smartphone edition like on my Qtek 8500.... just flip the phone open and start pressing those keys and voila!

The issue set out in this old thread is the sole reason i am not buying a symbian phone. Is there a feature equivalent to windows mobile's smart dial yet?

Thank you for your thoughts.

Well, a few years later and many phones after, I did find what I was looking for.

It is a commercial app that you have to pay for, unfortunately, but it does exactly what i was looking for, instant contact search from idle screen, as in WM phones.

SkyeQuiKey was the sw I settled for after testing quite a few phonebook/contact search softwares.

Just in case anyone else still needs something like this.
